Homemade Coffee Liqueur

white sugar

brown sugar

water

instant coffee (‘good coffee’)

ml vodka

vanilla beans (split lengthwise)

Combine white sugar, brown sugar and water in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.  Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.  Stir occasionally and do not allow to boil over (reduce heat if needed).

Add instant coffee to sugar syrup while syrup is still hot.  Stir to dissolve.  Let cool.

Pour liquid into glass storage jug or container.  Add vodka and vanilla beans.  Let stand in a cool, dark location for 2 weeks before drinking.

Homemade Kahlua has a perfect balance of sweetness that is shared with coffee and rum.

Stir

Stir sugar into hot coffee and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool.

Cover

Cover and let sit for 2 to 3 weeks in a cool place.

Strain

Bottle

If you are using vanilla extract then stir in and it is ready. It won&#x27;t have quite the depth of flavor but it is good.

Homemade Coffee Liqueur AKA Kahlúa

vodka

coffee beans, (lightly crushed)

vanilla beans, (split)

Add the water and sugar to a medium pot. Heat and stir until steaming and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat.

Add the vodka, lightly crushed coffee beans, and split vanilla beans. Stir together and let cool to room temperature.

Transfer to a very clean air-tight container. Seal and let sit in a cool dark place for three weeks or longer.

Strain the solids out of mixture with a fine mesh strainer, and divide up the homemade Kahlua or keep it in a big batch.

Kahlua keeps fine at room temperature for a few months.
