Healthy Sesame Chicken (Gluten Free + Paleo Friendly)

chicken breast (or thighs), diced into 1″ cubes

cornstarch (or arrowroot)

Tbsp. gluten free tamari (or soy sauce

Avocado oil

water

Tbsp. pure maple syrup

Tbsp. rice vinegar

sesame oil (or more, to taste)

garlic, finely minced

ginger

red pepper flakes (optional)

cornstarch

sesame seeds

In a medium bowl or container, combine diced chicken with 2 Tbsp. cornstarch and 1 1/2 Tbsp. tamari. Toss with a fork to coat well.

In a medium skillet, heat 1 Tbsp. avocado oil over medium-high heat.

Working in batches, add chicken pieces to the pan (they shouldn&#8217;t be touching) and cook 3-4 minutes on the first side and 1-3 minutes on the second side to cook through. (They should be fully opaque and have no pink inside).

Remove cooked chicken to a clean plate and repeat with remaining chicken until add chicken is cooked, adding more oil to the pan as needed.

START WITH THE CHICKEN:

In a bowl or liquid measuring cup, combine water, tamari, syrup or honey, vinegar, toasted sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk to combine.

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 Tbsp cornstarch with 1 Tbsp water to make a cornstarch slurry.

When the chicken is fully cooked, reduce the heat in the pan to medium-low.

Add cornstarch slurry to the sesame sauce mixture and whisk to combine (it&#8217;ll now look a bit milky).

Pour sauce mixture into the warm pan and whisk over medium-low heat 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling, thickened, and more translucent. (You should start to be able to see the path of your whisk in the sauce).

Return cooked chicken to pan and coat with the sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve warm!

I actually need to know why there are two 1/2 tsp of ginger and one of them is optional.  I'm about to make this tonight and I am confused.

This was delicious! I reduced the amount of water because I thought it would be too much, but it ended up being too thick once it cooked down, so the water amount from the recipe is right. I also used arrowroot powder instead of corn starch and worked out great!

I made it for my husband and I tonight and it was delicious! He said he'd like for it to be added "into the rotation" haha. I love how the chicken was nice and crispy and adding the red pepper flakes added the right amount of heat that we like.

Is there any reason Avocado Oil is your preference? I'm going to grab some for next time and other recipes but I'm just curious.

This easy Honey Sesame Chicken recipe only takes 25 minutes to make because it is made in the Instant Pot.&nbsp;It is a family favorite and SO much better than takeout!

Honey Sesame Chicken {Instant Pot}

boneless skinless chicken breasts (chopped)

Salt and black pepper (for seasoning)

vegetable oil or canola oil

onion

garlic (minced)

soy sauce (use Tamari for gluten-free)

ketchup

red pepper flakes

sesame oil

honey

scallions (white and green parts, chopped)

rice broccoli

scallions and sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Select Browning/Sauté to preheat the Instant Pot. When hot, add the oil, onion, garlic, and chicken to the pot. Sauté for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens.

Stir in the soy sauce, ketchup, and red pepper flakes. Lock the lid in place. Select High Pressure and 3 minutes cook time.

When the cook time ends, turn off the pressure cooker. Use a quick pressure release. When the valve drops, carefully remove the lid. Add the sesame oil and honey to the pot and stir to combine.

In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Add the slurry to the pot. Select Simmer/Sauté and simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens. Stir in the scallions. Serve over rice and garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve roasted broccoli on the side, if desired.

Easy Sesame Chicken

garlic cloves, (minced)

Tablespoon fresh ginger, (minced)

chicken broth, (divided)

⅓ Tablespoons soy sauce

rice vinegar

egg whites, (large)

Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

green onions, (sliced)

Heat the sesame oil over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add the fresh minced garlic and ginger to the saucepan and sauté for 1 minute.

Slowly whisk in ¼ cup plus 2 Tablespoons of the broth, the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Bring the mixture to a soft rolling boil.

In a small bowl, whisk together 2 Tablespoons of broth and 1 Tablespoon cornstarch until well combined.

Pour the cornstarch mixture into the sauce and allow to boil for 1 minute, ensure that you stir constantly. Remove the saucepan from the heat and set aside.

For The Sauce

While the sauce is cooling, grab a cutting board and chop the meat in to 1-inch cubes. Place them on a plate.

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together cornstarch, egg whites, salt, and pepper until well blended. Add the cubed pieces of meat into the mixing bowl and toss until well coated.

Heat 2 Tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When heated, add half of the meat to the oil and cook until each piece is no longer pink in the middle. This took me about 12 minutes.

Once the meat is done, set aside in bowl. Add an additional Tablespoon of oil to the skillet and repeat the same steps with the rest of the chicken, cooking for about 12 minutes or until done. Remove the skillet from the heat.

Using tongs, add all of the cooked pieces to a large bowl. Slowly pour on the sauce. Mix to combine, ensuring the sauce evenly coats each piece of chicken.

Sprinkle on sesame seeds and sliced green onions and serve over a bed of Basmati rice.

For The Chicken

Make your own takeout with this veggie-packed honey sesame chicken!

Honey Sesame Chicken

chicken breasts (cut into 1 inch pieces)

vegetable oil

sugar snap peas (trimmed)

salt and pepper

garlic

chicken broth

soy sauce

Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the snap peas and cook for approximately 2-3 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

Remove the snap peas from the pan; place them on a plate and cover.

Wipe the pan clean with a paper towel and turn the heat to high. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil.

Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper and add them to the pan in a single layer - you may need to do this step in batches. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.

Add the snap peas back to the pan and cook for 2 more minutes or until the vegetables are warmed through.

In a bowl whisk together the chicken broth, honey, sesame oil, garlic and soy sauce. In a small bowl mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water.

Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and snap peas; cook for 30 seconds. Add the cornstarch and bring to a boil; cook for 1 more minute or until sauce has just started to thicken.

Serve immediately, topped with sesame seeds.

Baked Honey Sesame Chicken

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper.

In separate bowls, place cornstarch and slightly beaten eggs. Dip chicken into cornstarch then coat in egg mixture then back into the cornstarch. I have also found that you can put the chicken pieces in a gallon size bag and shake to coat.

Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook chicken until browned. Place the chicken in a 9 x 13 greased baking dish.

In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and 1 T cornstarch. Pour over chicken and bake for 45 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

I stirred the chicken every 15 minutes so that it coated them in the sauce.
