Hot Buttered Rum

butter

brown sugar

nutmeg

oz rum

oz orange juice

Orange zest

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter and spices until light and fluffy.

Portion 2 tablespoons of the spice butter into each cocktail glass.

Measure 1 1/2 oz of rum into each glass and top with 3/4 cup boiling water.

Stir well to break down the butter.

Add a splash of orange juice and a sprinkling of orange zest.

Serve hot.

Make the spiced butter

Roll the butter with a rolling pin until it is flattened. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Use a spatula the butter together with the sugar and spices until everything is incorporated. Use immediately or refrigerate until making the drinks. 

To make the drinks

Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of the spiced butter to each glass. Add rum and boiling water and stir until combined. If you like a sweeter drink, top with whipped cream.

Beat butter and brown sugar in medium bowl with electric mixer on medium speed about 5 minutes or until light and fluffy. Beat in whipping cream and powdered sugar alternately on low speed until smooth. Stir in cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Use immediately, or spoon into 1-quart freezer container. Cover, label and freeze up to 3 months.

For each serving, place rum and 2 tablespoons Hot Buttered Rum Batter in mug. Stir in boiling water. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

Place butter, dark brown sugar, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.

Use a mixer to combine until smooth.
