How to Make Sticky Rice (Foolproof Method!)

Add the sticky rice to a mixing bowl or other deep container. Fill it with water so that the water level is at least 3 inches above the rice, as the rice will expand when soaking.

Soak for 6 to 24 hours. Soak it longer if you want your sticky rice to have a softer texture.

Drain the water (no need to shake off the excess water), and evenly arrange the soaked sticky rice on a heat-proof, rimmed plate or bamboo steamer lined with natural steamer liners or parchment paper.

Cover and steam for 30-45 minutes. When making larger batch of rice, steam in two batches or steam longer. You can check the rice and increase the steaming time if need be.

Keep the sticky rice in the steamer or covered to prevent drying out until you serve it or use it in a recipe.

You don&#x27;t need a fancy, expensive rice cooker to make the perfect sticky rice - just like your favorite takeout place serves. You just need an instant pot. Oh, and read the directions carefully. :)

Instant Pot Sticky Rice

Rinse the rice in a colander with cold/lukewarm water. Rinse until the water runs clear under the colander. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.

Transfer the rinsed (and wet) rice to the base on the Instant Pot insert. Add the hot water and put the lid on.

Set to Sealing.

Cook on Manual Mode, High Pressure for 7 minutes.

Let naturally release for 10 minutes, then release the steam valve and let remaining pressure release.

Remove insert and serve Instant Pot Sticky Rice as side dish or base for your meal.

How to Make PERFECT Sticky Rice in the Instant Pot

Place the rice in a small hole colander or sieve and run cold water over it for at least 45 seconds. Use your hands to keep turning the rice over so that it all gets well-washed.2 cups sushi rice

Rinse the rice.

Place the rice in a large saucepan, pour over the water, and then place it over medium-high heat without a lid.2½ cups water

As soon as the pan comes to a boil, place a lid on the pan and reduce the heat so the rice is barely simmering (medium-low/low heat) for 18 minutes. (see note 3)

Remove the pan from the heat, but do not lift the lid. Let it sit and steam for 15 minutes.

After this time, use a large rubber spatula to turn the rice over gently. This releases the steam from the bottom of the pan and helps to fluff the rice.
