This Huli Huli Chicken recipe features mouthwatering Hawaiian BBQ chicken marinated in a tangy, sweet, savory glaze and then grilled to perfection.

Huli Huli Chicken Recipe

chicken thighs, boneless *see notes

brown sugar coconut sugar)

tomato paste *see notes

dijon mustard

rice vinegar

garlic cloves, pressed

fresh ginger, minced

soy sauce

pineapple juice

salt

black pepper

sriracha

In a blender or with an immersion blender, mix together sugar, tomato paste, dijon mustard, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, pineapple, salt, pepper, and sriracha.  Set aside 3/4 cup of the marinade.

Put the chicken thighs in a medium bowl and mix with the remaining marinade. Marinate for at least 4 hours and up to 48 hours.

Heat the grill to high and brush grill grates with oil if needed. Drain the marinade off the chicken thighs and place them on the hot grill. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes. Flip the chicken, baste it with the reserved marinade and cook with the lid closed for another minute. Continue cooking, flipping, and basting this way for about 10 minutes until the internal temperature registers 185F degrees.

like a Kabab which was awsomely delicious.

This turned out really well and was delicious. I think I should have been bolder to turn up my grill higher, took 15 minutes to cook through but still had a great flavor and tasty crispy bits.

Tonia, this recipe was incredible!  At first, I thought there was a recipe typo?  I noticed there wasn't oil added to the marinade.  I didn't think the flavors would absorb without oil added.  I was wrong!   The chicken was so delicious and moist.  The flavors were delicious.  I use to mainly eat chicken breasts, but now, I think I am a thigh lover.  Thank you for the easy flavorful recipe!

This was spectacular! Will definitely make this again and again.

We are not lovers of dark meat chicken in my house so I doubt I’ve made a chicken thigh in over 25 years. But after a trying day of cancer treatments my neighbor brought us this. Perfectly trimmed, boneless, skinless grilled chicken thighs in huli huli. And we were instant converts. The umami and slightly sweet glaze was the perfect marinade for the richer, dark meat thighs. I’ll make this one again and again!

Good Huli Huli chicken recipe. I've tried making several since visiting Hawaii and like the Islands, each one is a little different. 
This marinade/ sauce is a sweet, BBQ style sauce with a little hint of spice. The family liked it. I'll be making it again.
