This Jamaican Steamed Cabbage Recipe is an easy to make flavorful side dish. It goes with chicken,pork,fish. Weight watcher points friendly.

Jamaican Steamed Cabbage Recipe (Easy)

Head Cabbage Sliced

Onion Sliced

Red Pepper Julienned

Cup Shredded Carrot

Chicken or Vegetable Broth

Thyme

Black Pepper

Garlic Powder

Tbsp. Oil. (Coconut, Vegetable or Avocado oil)

Cut half onion into quarter inch slices

Cut cabbage into thin slices.

Julienne Red Pepper

Heat pan to medium-high heat. When the pan is heated add oil to the pan. Saute onion for about 3 minutes. Add shredded cabbage to the pan and saute 3 more minutes. Add chicken broth and  Thyme and Garlic Powder, Black Pepper and stir to combine. Turn heat to medium and cover pan for 5 minutes to get the cabbage to wilt a bit. Then add Red Pepper and Carrots. Stir to combine. Cover pan and lower heat to simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or desired doneness.

Jamaican steamed cabbage is a family favorite. Extra veggies add crunch, the Scotch bonnet pepper adds a touch of heat, along with a burst of fresh thyme.

Jamaican Steamed Cabbage

cabbage (sliced, about 4 cups)

carrots

Roma tomato (chopped)

onion

garlic (chopped)

onions

thyme

scotch bonnet pepper

water

olive oil

unsalted butter

salt

black pepper (or to taste)

Add all the ingredients to a large pan over medium heat and cover with a lid.

Cook on medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 10 minutes, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the cabbage is soft and tender. Remove from the heat and remove the stalks of thyme before serving.
