Tamagoyaki is a Japanese rolled omelet made with beaten eggs that are seasoned with dashi, soy sauce &amp; sugar. Layers are then rolled together in a tamagoyaki pan to create its shape. This easy 3 ingredient tamagoyaki recipe is great for any home cook!

Tamagoyaki (Japanese Rolled Omelet)

eggs

1½ Tablespoons oil

water

Tablespoon memmi sauce (see Note 1)

Beat Eggs

Add the eggs, water, and memmi sauce into a cup with an easy-to-pour spout. Beat the eggs with a whisk until the egg whites and yolks are well combined. Optional: strain the mixture for a smoother consistency.

Roll first omelette layer

Heat a tamagoyaki pan or regular pan over medium heat and lightly oil the bottom. Pour a thin layer of the egg mixture to cover the surface of the pan. Slightly scramble the eggs for the first few seconds but allow them to set into an even layer after it starts to cook. When it&#39;s 70% cooked but the surface is still wet, roll into an omelet and move to one side of the pan.

Re-oil the pan. Pour another thin layer of the egg mixture into the pan and lift the omelet to allow the egg mixture to flow under it. Slightly scramble the eggs for a few seconds and allow to set in an even layer. When the eggs are 70% cooked but the surface is still wet, roll another layer of the omelet and set it to one side of the pan. Repeat this set until the egg mixture is gone.

Cool and slice

Remove from the pan and allow it to rest for several minutes for easy slicing. Cut into even slices and serve. Enjoy!

Inspired by the Japanese Omurice, I make my own version of this Japanese Omelet Rice simple, easy, and tasty, with quick-cooking rice, shredded chicken, eggs, and plenty of veggies flavored with sesame oil, soy sauce, and ketchup!

Easy Omurice Recipe (Japanese Omelet Rice)

rice rice

chicken

sesame oil (divided)

onion

soy sauce

ketchup

vegetable mix (peas/carrots/corn) (defrosted)

salt and pepper (to taste)

cheese

olive oil

Whisk together eggs and olive oil and set aside.

In a medium skillet, saute diced onions in 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes til onions are translucent.

Stir in rice, remaining 1 tablespoon sesame oil, soy sauce, and ketchup and saute rice for 3-4 minutes until browned.

Stir in mixed vegetables and chicken until heated throughout. Transfer rice mixture to a bowl and cover to keep warm.

Pour half of the whisked eggs into the pan (over medium heat). Immediately tilt the pan to coat the entire bottom of the pan with egg. Sprinkle half of the cheese over  the eggs.

Cook for 1-2 minutes until eggs are mostly cooked (they will still be slightly undercooked on top).

Spoon half of the rice mixture into the center of the eggs. Use a spatula for fold over the the eggs over the rice to make an omelet. Carefully turn out onto a paper towel. Immediately wrap in the paper towel and shape into a football/omelet shape to seal the edges together.

Repeat with remaining egg and rice mixtures to make a second omelet. Serve while warm, top with additional ketchup if desired.

So heavenly, I made it twice.  I came across it while googling a breakfast recipe to use up the basmati rice/vegetables that were leftovers from dinner... Little did I know what I treat I would have!  So good, I made it two days in a row.............. and just posted it on FB, for the world (of my friends) to enjoy......  :D

Never tried it before but was craving the dish. Delicious and just how I imagined it would taste.
