How to Make Apple Juice (With and Without Juicer)

There are three main ways that you can easily use to make homemade apple juice at home, including with a juicer, blender, or manually (machine free).If your apples are waxed, then you’ll first want to remove this. To do so, you can dip the apples in hot water with a splash of distilled vinegar (or ACV) for a few seconds, then rinse them with cold tap water. Alternatively, you can use some apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and a paper towel to wipe the apples then rinse them.

Clean and chop the apples, discarding the core with the seeds. Optionally peel the apples – though I don’t.

Add the apple pieces to your blender along with ½ cup or so of water (or even orange juice) – this will help the machine blend the apples into a smooth(-ish) juicy, pulpy consistency.  

If you want to get rid of the pulp, pour the apple juice into a nut milk bag or through a muslin cloth and manually squeeze it to squeeze out as much liquid as possible.You can optionally add some back into the juice if you want just a little pulp. Check the FAQs for more ways to use the leftover apple pulp.

Using a Blender

Wash, and chop the apples – removing the inner core/seeds – into pieces small enough to fit your juicer chute. Optionally peel the apples, though I don&#39;t.

Feed the apple pieces into your juicer, and voila! Save the apple pulp to use later (check FAQs).

Using a Juicer

Wash the apples if needed. Then grate them into a muslin/cheesecloth-lined bowl (or use a strainer).

Once grated, pull the cloth together, twist the top and wring it well/ squeeze by hand to remove as much juice from the apples as possible.To make the process simpler, freeze the grated apple overnight, then leave it to defrost at room temperature before squeezing the juice. When thawing, the apple will soften enough to make it easier to squeeze.

Squeezing the Juice Manually

This isn&#39;t a method I often use, as I prefer to use heat-free methods for the highest nutrition. However, the boiled method often makes for a higher volume of juice, AND it allows you to use lots of leftover apple scraps from other recipes, too (peels, cores, etc.)Gather your apple scraps and any additional washed thin apple slices – there&#39;s no need to core them as you’ll be straining all the pulp afterward anyway. However, feel free to do so if you want to use the pulp for applesauce.

Add the apples to a large pot and cover them with an inch of water (don’t add too much as it will dilute the juice. It is better to add more later if preferred than add too much now). Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high. Once the water boils, reduce to a simmer and cover with a lid, cooking for 25-30 minutes (stirring occasionally), or until the apples are very tender. 

Transfer the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, muslin cloth, or nut milk bag to strain. Next, use a spoon (or your hands when it’s cool enough to handle) to press/squeeze the remaining apple pulp to remove as much juice as possible. 

Taste and adjust the juice with more water/sweetener if preferred. Then, you can use the leftover apple pulp to mix/blend into homemade applesauce with a bit of cinnamon and sweetener. You can also &quot;water bath can&quot; this version of apple juice, though I haven’t tried. I recommend referring to professional guidelines. However, my previous experience would have me recommending a 10-minute processing time, leaving an inch headspace in the canning jars before processing.

Bonus: Boiling Method

Store: I recommend drinking homemade apple juice within 24 hours for the best flavor and nutrient levels. However, the leftover juice will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container. It will brown over time as it oxidizes. To increase the shelf life of the homemade apple juice then you can pasteurize the juice.Freeze: freeze any leftover apple juice as quickly as possible for optimal nutrient retention. I recommend doing so in ice-cube trays for &quot;portioned&quot; juice. You can store the juice in the freezer for several months (4-6). You can then add the apple juice ice cubes to other drinks, smoothies, and slushies - or allow them to thaw in the fridge first.

How to Juice a Lime (6 Methods With + Without Juicer | + Freeze it)

No matter which of the below methods you use, here are a couple of tricks for how to get the most juice out of a lime (and most citrus fruits). These include:•	Roll the limes on the countertop to break up/loosen the membranes.•	Microwaving them for 20-25 seconds can help also loosen membranes and make it easier to extract the juice.•	Slice them lengthwise instead of crosswise when juicing. Make sure to also always work with room temperature limes, as they&#39;ll be softer, so easier to juice.

Slice the limes in half.

Press each lime section against the reamer and let the machine do its thing.Most electric citrus juicers naturally filter the pulp/seeds from the fresh lime juice.

Electric Citrus Juicer Method

Tabletop version: slice the lime/s in half and, similarly to the electric juicer, place each over the juicer. Twist it back and forth over the reamer to release as much juice as possible.

Hand-held reamer/Hinge-based juicer: first, place a bowl/container beneath where you&#39;ll juice the limes. To strain the pulp/seeds, I recommend placing a fine-mesh sieve above it. For the hand-held reamer, simply hold a half piece in the palm of your hand and use your other hand to press the reamer into the cut side of the lime halves and twist back and forth to release the juice. For a hinge-based juicer, place the lime half into the tool and then press it tightly close to squeeze out as much juice as possible.

Citrus Reamer/Handheld Citrus Squeezer

Slice each lime in half and, working on one piece at a time, place them over a sieve-lined bowl.

Press either a spoon or fork into the center of the lime segment and squeeze and twist. Use the fork/spoon to scrape against the lime&#39;s sides to extract as much fresh lime juice as possible.

Fork or Spoon Method

Slice the limes into lengthwise quarters and place them in your stand mixer bowl.

Cover the bowl using a splatter guard (or a layer of clingfilm).

Turn the mixer on LOW and allow it to crush/squeeze all the juice from the limes.

Finally, pour that mixture through a sieve/nut milk bag.

Stand Mixer Method

Press a skewer (or chopstick) into the non-stem end of the lemon. Pushing it right into the fruit without coming out the other end.

Then simply hold it over a container and squeeze. The pulp and seeds should stay inside while the juice streams out.

Skewer Method

Place the lime/s in the freezer in a Ziplock bag and allow to freeze entirely.

When you need the juice, allow the limes to thaw at room temperature. Then slice in half and squeeze by hand or with a fork/spoon.

How To Make Pineapple Juice (With or Without Juicer)

Slice off the bottom and top of the pineapple. With the pineapple stood upright, use a long, sharp knife to slice off strips of the peel until it&#39;s fully peeled. Then go back in with a smaller paring knife and cut any remaining eye bits.

Chop it into rings, chunks, fingers, etc.- as long as the pieces are small enough to fit your juicer chute/blender jug.You can optionally core the pineapple, though that&#39;s fine to juice too, and can even help push the softer pulp through your juicer.

Feed the chopped pineapple through your juicer and let it do the work for you.Using this method, one average pineapple will yield almost 3 cups (700 ml) of juice.

Add the pineapple chunks to a high-speed blender jar and blend them into a smooth(ish) puree.Although I didn&#39;t add any extra liquid, you could add a small amount of water or coconut water if the pineapple puree needs help to become smooth and to your desired consistency. Alternatively, add the water/coconut water as ice cubes for a pineapple slushy consistency.

If you don’t mind pulpy pineapple juice, you can enjoy it as is. Otherwise, strain the mixture through a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve/ strainer. Make sure to squeeze out as much of the juice as you can. Using this method, one average pineapple can yield about 3 ⅓ cups (800 ml) of juice.

Juicer-free Method

Pour the homemade pineapple juice into your glass of choice and enjoy it garnished with some mint or pineapple wedges!

Store: for optimal nutrient absorption and freshness, drink the homemade pineapple juice within 24 hours. However, you can store it in an airtight jug in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Freeze: I like to freeze the fresh pineapple juice in portions within a large or extra-large silicone ice cube tray for 4 months. That way, you can thaw just the right amount of frozen pineapple juice (give it a stir/shake before drinking) or even add it directly to a smoothie/slushy. You can also freeze the leftover pineapple pulp similarly, either in an ice cube tray or a reusable Ziplock-style bag.

4 Ways to Juice a Watermelon (+ Watermelon Keg)

Gather the watermelon flesh. Since it&#39;s going to be juiced, there&#39;s no need to spend time cutting nice even pieces. You can simply chop the melon in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

Perhaps surprisingly, using a juicer for watermelon juice is actually my least favorite method. All you need to do is chop your melon down to size, enough to fit your juicer chute. However, I&#39;ve found that the remaining pulp is still quite &#39;wet&#39;, so it&#39;s not optimal.

Watermelon Juicer Method

You may need to do this in batches, based on how much melon you&#39;re juicing. Place the watermelon flesh in your food processor/blender and process into a juice. This should only take 30-60 seconds!

Then, use a nut milk bag or sieve to remove the broken-up seed pieces and any pulp.

Using a Food Processor/Blender

Place the watermelon flesh in a large bowl or container (i.e. the one that comes with the immersion blender- but this would need to be done in batches). Then use the blender to blend the flesh into a thick pulpy juice.

With this method, the seeds will get crushed too, so you will still need to seive the juice if preferred. Otherwise, you can keep the fiber/pulp in the juice for extra roughage.

Using a Handheld/Immersion Blender

Place the watermelon flesh in a large nut milk bag. Holding it over a large bowl, squeeze the bag with your hands to manually juice the watermelon. There&#39;s no need to go through a second sieve step, as you&#39;re already leaving the pulp behind!

Juice a watermelon by hand

All you need to make this watermelon keg/ dispenser are a large watermelon, a sharp knife, a blender (immersion or jug), and a tap and stand ( or anything to keep the melon up-right).Tip * Alternatively, if you can&#39;t find anything to use as a &#39;stand&#39;, you can cut a very thin layer of melon from the bottom. Just enough to keep it upright, without going all the way through the rind.

Cut off the top of the watermelon and set it aside. Then, with a knife or a scooper, break down a bit of the watermelon flesh.

Use either a hand-held blender to blend the watermelon juice directly in the watermelon rind or you can scoop out the flesh and blend/juice it separately using the methods above.If you are blending directly in the watermelon, pour it out from time to time and sieve to remove the seeds (not needed if you use a seedless melon). Set the juice aside. Make sure to scoop out all the watermelon flesh from inside the rind.

Place the tap in your watermelon keg. Make sure it&#39;s low enough so all the juice can be dispensed, then press the tap against the skin to leave a slight mark. You can then use a sharp knife to make an incision - slightly smaller than the mark. Then, Insert the tap through the rind.Pro Tips: Check if there&#39;s any flesh that has gotten into the end of the tap - it could potentially block the flow. Also, make sure you close the tap before you pour in the juice.

Pour in the sieved juice. You can optionally add some mint and ice cubes. Place the top of the watermelon as a lid. Enjoy your watermelon keg! Pro tip: Make sure the lid doesn&#39;t completely block the airflow, as then you cannot use the tap. Leave it slightly open or make a small incision in the back so the air can go in. You&#39;re now left with a delicious, fun fruity party drink or healthy treat to enjoy all day long! Plus friends and family are sure to love this creative way to use watermelon!

How to make tomato juice with and without a juicer with one of three methods: blending, grating, or a tomato juicer recipe. I&#039;ve also thrown in a bonus heated method. The resulting homemade tomato juice takes just minutes to prepare and is fresh, packed with flavor, and perfect for whipping up cocktails or storing for later!

How to Make Tomato Juice (4 Methods)

Wash the tomatoes well and pat them dry. Depending on which method you plan to use, you may want to remove the tomato core, too.

This method is the simplest of them all and requires no manual squeezing.Chop the tomatoes, so they fit through the chute of your juicer.

Slowly feed them into the juicer – voila! The juicer will automatically remove the skin and seeds from the juice.

Tomato Juicer Recipe

Chop the tomatoes into rough pieces.

Blend until the mixture is juice-like and smooth – this may take a couple of minutes to properly break down.

Place a large nut milk bag or layers of cheesecloth inside a large bowl (alternatively, use a sieve) and pour the tomato mixture from the blender into it. Lift the bag/cheesecloth up and allow it to drain naturally. Then, using your hands, squeeze the leftover pulp to remove as much juice as possible.

Tomato Juice in a Blender

Grate or chop the tomato as finely as possible into a large bowl, then transfer than mixture to a nut milk bag (or cheesecloth layers) and squeeze, squeeze, squeeze.

Chop your tomatoes and add them to a large pan on the stovetop over medium heat with a splash of water. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. Continuously stirring to soften the tomatoes.

Press the softened tomatoes through a sieve or food mill to extract the juice and leave behind the skin and seeds.

Return the extracted juice to the stovetop and heat over medium heat until just before boiling (around 185-195ºF/85-90ºC - don&#39;t boil it!).You can then can the juice or allow it to cool slightly before transferring to the refrigerator or freezer.

BONUS The Heated Method

Store: once prepared, fresh tomato juice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.Freeze:  transfer the tomato juice to a freezer-safe container or bags, leaving 1-inch headspace (for expansion), then freeze for up to 1 year.For small servings, you could add little portioned amounts to silicone ice-cube trays and freeze until solid. Then transfer to a freezer-safe bag/container. Then simply pop out as many cubes as needed each time.

How To Juice Turmeric (With and Without a Juicer)

(This method is the simplest and quickest, with the highest juice yield and lowest &#039;waste&#039;.)Wash the fresh turmeric well using a small vegetable brush. There&#039;s no need to peel the skin from the turmeric (unless you&#039;re worried about pesticides), so I like to make sure that it&#039;s properly clean.

Feed the turmeric root into the juicer, cutting it into smaller pieces as needed to fit into your juicer&#039;s shute.Top Tip: If you find that the turmeric pulp is still very wet, you can actually feed it back through the juicer a second (and even third) time.

With A Juicer

The main difference with this method is that you&#039;ll need to add extra water to help the blender (high-speed blenders only!) create a juice - so the liquid is slightly diluted. You also won&#039;t be able to extract quite as much from the turmeric root.For this, you can use un-peeled turmeric, though peeled may be easier to blend. The easiest way to peel turmeric root is with a spoon (like I have here for ginger), which will easily scrape it off.Chop the turmeric into small pieces around 1-inch in length/thickness and add to the blender with 1/2-1 cup of water and blend until the pieces are broken up, and you have a smooth-ish juice.Top Tip: Use a smaller jug for this, as it will make it easier for the blade to blend the root properly.You could also use coconut water or blend it with another juice (like orange juice or carrot juice) if you want to use it immediately for mixed juice shots.

Pour the turmeric juice into a nut milk bag (or use a cheesecloth or sieve) and squeeze the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.The juice will stain the nut milk bag/cheesecloth - so I usually keep one aside specifically for turmeric.

With A Blender

This process can be affected by the turmeric&#039;s age and the individual press - larger ones may work better- so it isn&#039;t foolproof, but it should work in a pinch.Peel the turmeric root and then slice it into pieces about 1-inch in size (or just big enough to fit your garlic press).Then simply press and the juice should come out without pushing through any of the pulp.

With A Garlic Press

The final process only requires a garlic grater dish or micro planer/Japanese ginger grater and some patience. It will yield the most diluted juice - but it could be handy for those with no other option. Use gloves when using this method! You can use peeled or unpeeled turmeric for this method.Grate the turmeric using the garlic grater.Then add the pulp to a nut milk bag and squeeze out as much juice as possible.Alternatively, add the pulp to some water. Leave this to &#039;soak&#039; in the refrigerator for at least six hours or overnight. Then strain the liquid through a nut milk bag/cheesecloth/strainer, pressing the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.

With A Garlic/Ginger Grater Dish

Fridge: Fresh juice is best consumed as soon as possible as the nutrients will deplete as it oxidizes. For that reason, it&#039;s best to use the turmeric juice within 5-7 days, though it should be &#039;fresh&#039; for up to 2 weeks. Give it a good shake before drinking.Freezer: Pour the turmeric juice into an ice-cube tray for perfectly portioned amounts and freeze for up to 6 months. When you want to use some, remove it from the freezer and allow it to thaw for juice shots or blend directly into smoothies from frozen.

Easy Homemade Coconut Cream 2 ways

Mature coconuts (the amount is up to you. I used 9 to make a large jar of coconut cream)

To keep the coconut shells 100% intact (to make coconut bowls), use a small handheld saw and cut them open through the middle. Do this over a bowl, to collect the coconut water. Otherwise, Begin by extracting the coconut water from the coconuts. You can do this by using a screwdriver, nail, or similarly sharp tool and create holes in the coconut eyes, to drain the water (which you can drink straight or add to smoothies).

You can then put the coconut shells with the flesh in the oven for 20 minutes at 170ºC/325ºF. This is optional but it makes it easier for the flesh to come out of the shells. Alternatively use a knife, spoon, or coconut tool.

You can peel the brown skin off the coconut flesh to get a pure white coconut cream when using a juicer (not required for the blender at all). This is an optional step. *

The first step for either method: Opening the coconuts

Add the coconut flesh to a high speed blender/food processor and blitz to shred it. Add 4 cups of water and blend again to obtain coconut milk. ** / ***

Pass the blended coconut milk through a nut milk bag and squeeze out all the liquid. ****

Pour the coconut milk into a big jar and set aside so that the creamy part separates from the watery liquid part and rises to the top. Using a dispenser tap jar works great as you can then easily remove the liquid part. 

Scoop out the coconut cream. Or, if using a dispenser tap jar, pour out the watery part and place in a smaller jar/container.

Optional step: to make thicker cream, refrigerate overnight. It will separate further, to make even creamier cream on top. Scoop out the cream and it's ready to use.

Method 1: Using a blender

Pass pieces of coconut fresh through a juicer. For a pure white cream, peel off the brown skin in advance. 

The coconut cream comes out in the juice container, low-fat shredded coconut comes out in the pulp container. 

Your coconut cream is ready to use immediately or can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
