This London Broil Marinade is super simple and perfect for the grill! Loads of garlic, red wine vinegar, and Worcestershire round out the marinade for a steak that is both tender and flavorful.

Simple Grilled London Broil Marinade

beef top round roast (also labeled "London Broil")

olive oil

dark brown sugar

red wine vinegar

garlic (minced)

Worcestershire sauce

salt

black pepper

red pepper flakes

rosemary

Combine all of the marinade ingredients in a zip top gallon bag or a large lidded container. Submerge the steak in the marinade and press all of the air out of the bag. Massage and turn the bag over several times to ensure the meat is coated. Marinate for 2 hours at least, or overnight for better flavor.

Preheat your grill to 450 degrees F for direct heat cooking. Sear the steak for approximately 4-6 minutes per side, rotating regularly, until the internal temperature reads 130-135 degrees F for medium rare.

Remove the steaks from the grill and allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain and serving. I like to sprinkle with a little more coarse salt and some fresh cracked black pepper right before serving.

Grilled Marinated London Broil - How To

Turn this affordable steak into a tender, juicy, and flavorful piece of meat with a&nbsp;simple 5-minute London Broil Marinade!&nbsp;

London Broil Marinade

soy sauce

balsamic vinegar

lemon juice

garlic

ginger

brown sugar

In a large bowl, whisk together all of the marinade ingredients until completely combined. Pour marinade into a large zip-top plastic bag. Add London Broil to the bag, squeeze out all of the air, and seal the bag. Toss gently to coat the London Broil with the marinade.

Place in refrigerator to marinate for about 4 hours (or up to 2 days), tossing occasionally to redistribute marinade.

Remove meat from the marinade, discard the marinade, and pat the meat dry.

Allow the meat to sit on the counter for about 30 minutes to come to room temperature. Remove meat from marinade and grill the meat for about 4 minutes per side over direct heat, then move to indirect heat until the meat reaches 125-130° F for rare, 135° F for medium-rare, or 145° F for medium. Transfer meat to a cutting board and let stand 10 minutes. Cut meat diagonally across the grain into thin slices.

TO GRILL:

Allow the meat and marinade to sit on the counter for about 30 minutes to come to room temperature. Meanwhile, preheat the broiler and the broiler pan to HIGH. Allow to heat for 10 minutes.

Make sure to use an actual broiler pan, rather than a baking pan. A broiler pan has a rack built in that prevents the rendered fat from becoming a fire hazard. Transfer the meat to the broiler pan and discard the marinade in the bag. 

Broil the steak for 8 to 12 minutes, turning once about halfway through. The specific time will vary depending on the size and thickness of your steak, so use an instant-read thermometer to know when your meat is done. It should be 125-130° F for rare, 135° F for medium-rare, or 145° F for medium. Transfer meat to a cutting board and let stand 10 minutes. Cut meat diagonally across the grain into thin slices.

London Broil Marinade for the Grill or Oven

This easy London broil marinade is packed full of all the right flavors to compliment your juicy, broiled steak! The acid from the balsamic, Worcestershire, and soy sauce helps you produce perfectly tender steak. When combined with Dijon mustard and minced garlic, this marinade adds all the flavor you need to make a truly incredible London broil!

Dijon mustard ((or honey Dijon mustard))

black pepper ((freshly ground is best))

thyme

lb London broil ((typically 2 inches thick))

In a Ziplock storage bag, mixing bowl, or brining container, combine the ingredients for your marinade (balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, olive oil, Dijon mustard, garlic, black pepper, salt, and optional thyme or oregano).

Prep your steak by tenderizing both sides with a meat mallet, then use a sharp knife to cut the surface of the meat in a criss-cross pattern. *Tenderizing your London broil is highly recommended.

Add your London broil to the marinade, submerging it as much as possible. If using a bag, squeeze the marinade around the steak so it is touching all sides. Place it in the fridge to marinate for at least 30 minutes, but preferably a few hours. You may leave it for up to 24 hours, but no longer.

Move the top oven rack to the second from highest position and set your oven to broil on high (or just &#039;broil&#039; if your oven doesn&#039;t have a high/low setting).

Remove the steak from the marinade and place it onto a broiler pan or a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet. *Alternatively you may line a tray or pan with foil.

Place the London broil on the center of the top rack and broil for 7 minutes per side for medium-rare (9 minutes per side for medium).

rest

Remove the steak from the oven and cover it loosely with a piece of foil. Let it rest for 10 minutes, then slice against the grain and serve.

London Broil

This less expensive cut of beef is marinated overnight then seared in a skillet on the stove top producing a flavorful tender steak. Be sure to read my helpful recipe tips for a delicious outcome.

In a large zipper plastic bag mix garlic, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, olive oil, brown sugar, thyme, oregano, fresh ground black pepper and kosher salt.  Add the steak; seal and refrigerate for 12-24 hours turning several times. 

Remove steak from the bag; discarding marinade. Thoroughly dry with paper towels. Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the steak and place a heavy skillet bottom down on it to weigh it down and sear it.  Cook about 6-7 minutes.  Flip and sear the other side for about 5 minutes; placing the skillet on it.

Remove to cutting board.  Cover with a loose aluminum tent; let rest for 10 minutes. Using sharp knife slice thinly against the grain.  Serve promptly.

I was intimidated at the thought of making a London Broil for the first time, but this was easy and delicious!

I’m a non meat eater in a whole family of meat lovers.  Came across this recipe after buying two London brooks and not knowing what to do with them.  Followed the recipe exactly (cooked under the broiler) and it was a smash hit.  One daughter said “this is the best kind of steak!”  There were no leftover.
