Recipe for Maple Cream Cheese Frosting made without the use of refined sugars. Instead, this frosting is sweetened with maple syrup. Perfect for cupcakes, cakes, and cinnamon rolls. 

Maple Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, room temperature ((42 grams))

Full-Fat Cream Cheese, room temperature ((227 grams))

Tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup ((84 grams))

Vanilla Extract

Salt

Lemon

In the bowl of an electric mixer with the whisk attachment or with a large bowl and handheld mixer, beat butter and cream cheese on medium-high speed until very smooth, about 2 minutes. 

Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add maple syrup, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon/orange juice. Beat on medium-high until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes, scraping down the sides and bottom of the bowl halfway through. 

If needed, chill for 10 minutes in the fridge to stiffen slightly to a spreadable consistency.

Meh...I couldn't taste the maple and it tasted like mostly just plain cream cheese. 
I ended up adding 1/2 cup powdered sucanat (as more syrup would have made it thinner) to make it just sweet enough.  I had enough to pipe onto 18 cupcakes.

Best frosting ever. I add one extra tablespoon of maple syrup and 1/2 tsp extra of vanilla. One time I put 1/2 tsp extra of maple extract for a pumpkin apple cake- yum!

I made a half recipe of this for a small batch of chocolate cupcakes and it was delicious! I added some finely minced orange rind to the frosting to boost the orange flavor. This is a keeper! Thank you for a not too sweet frosting so we can enjoy treats.

I've made this once before and it turned out delicious! However, I can't remember if it was enough to frost a 3 layer/6" cake. Would you recommend using the recipe as is or doubling it? Thank you!
