This tangy, spicy tomato based sauce perfectly complements delicious momo, whether fried or steamed.

Nepali Momo Sauce | Momo Dipping Sauce I Momo Achar

tbsp oil ((any vegetable oil))

tomato

tbsp chopped cilantro

green chilli

garlic paste

½ tsp ground turmeric

cumin seeds

½ tsp kashmiri red chili powder

½ tsp Ground coriander

½ tsp Ground cumin

salt

½ tsp black pepper

¼ tsp sichuan pepper (optional)

Heat the oil in a pan on a medium heat.

Once hot, add cumin seeds. Saute it for a minute.

Next, add green chili and saute for a minute.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook for a few minutes on a medium-high heat.

Next, add all spices and ginger and garlic paste. Mix all ingredients.

Cover the pan with a lid and cook it until the tomato gets mushy.

Once tomatoes are cooked, season with salt.

Cool it down for 5-10 mins. Transfer the cooked sauce to the blender.

Add chopped cilantro and blend it for 40-60 sec until it gets a smooth mixture.

Finally, transfer it to the bowl and serve it with your favorite momo.

I made a batch of this, intending to have it the following day because I still had some leftovers to get through, but it was so addictively delicious that I kept coming back to have “just one more taste” so, in the end, I had to break some Momo out of the freezer and just give in, it was so d@mn delicious…. I did make one change: I roasted the tomatoes until they were charred before I added them to the pan, because that’s how my favourite Nepalese restaurant in London used to do it….
