Mongolian Ground Beef Recipe

Onion (cut small dices)

Garlic (finely chopped)

tbsp Vegetable oil

Red Chilli (optional)

Sesame oil

tsp Ginger paste (finely grated ginger)

¼ tsp White/black pepper

Brown sugar

tbsp Light soy sauce

tsp Dark soy sauce

Chicken stock/broth

½ tsp Corn/potato starch(flour)

Mix the ground beef with sesame oil, ginger chopped and white pepper. Marinate for 15 mins and set aside.

Finely chop the garlic cloves, cut spring onions and chilli into thin slices, cut onion into small dices.

Heat the pan to medium high heat , drizzle two tablespoon of oil and add the chopped garlic and stir for few seconds then add the onions and stir for 1 min.

Add the marinated beef and stir till the beef slightly colour changed, then add the sauce mixture in. Stir fry with medium high heat until the sauce are absorbed and beef is cooked.

Add chilli slices and stir for few seconds. Turn off the heat and add the spring onion slices. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly. Make a taste test and add extra salt and pepper if needed.

Serve over a cooked rice and garnish with chopped spring onions. Enjoy!

Mongolian Ground Beef

lb (16 oz.) lean ground beef

sesame oil, (separated)

EACH: garlic & ginger (Note 1)

green onions

cornstarch

(127 grams) chicken stock ((we like Swansons))

(34 grams) soy sauce

(21 grams) mirin (Note 2)

(16 grams) light brown sugar, (lightly packed)

sesame seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, cooked rice (Note 3)

BROWN BEEF: Heat a skillet over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon sesame oil and swirl to coat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the ground beef to the center of the pan. Let it cook for 30 seconds without disturbing. Then, use a wooden spoon to break the meat into crumbles and cook until it&#39;s cooked through, about 6-9 minutes. Drain off most of the fat if there is an excess. Meanwhile, thinly slice the green onions, separating the green part from the root.

AROMATICS: Reduce heat to medium-high. Add remaining 1 tablespoon sesame oil, white parts of green onions, garlic and ginger. Saute until fragrant-- about 1-2 minutes.

SAUCE: Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and chicken stock until completely smooth. Add in mirin, brown sugar (start with less -- you can always add more -- we usually do 1 tablespoon), soy sauce, and red pepper flakes if using (we use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon). Whisk until smooth.

FINISH: Pour sauce and green parts of green onions on top of the beef. Cook, stirring constantly, until the liquid has thickened and is nicely coating the beef. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired. If desired, serve over rice (See Note 3), enjoy immediately!
