This apple-based Mulled Gin &amp; Tonic is easy to pull together and makes a wonderful Christmassy hot drink to serve to a crowd.Non-drinkers can enjoy the mulled apple juice just as it is.

Christmas Mulled Gin &amp; Tonic with Apple

apple juice

cranberries

Cinnamon stick - 10cm

Allspice berries

Star anise

ginger

Clementine

Cloves

120 ml/ 1/2 cup Mulled apple juice

ml/ 1 fl oz Gin

tsp Tonic Syrup

Bash the cinnamon stick a few times using a pestle and mortar and drop into a medium saucepan

Poke the cloves into the clementine and add to the pan

Tap the allspice berries to just split them and add to the pan along with all remaining ingredients

Put the lid on the pan and heat to almost boiling, then turn off the heat and leave to infuse for at least 1 hour&nbsp;

Strain through a fine-meshed sieve, decant into a screwtop bottle and refrigerate until required (keeps for up to 5 days)

Make the Mulled Apple Juice

Gently reheat sufficient mulled apple juice in a pan until hot but not boiling

Pour the gin and the tonic syrup into a heatproof glass and top with the hot apple juice

Garnish&nbsp;with cranberries, star anise and a cinnamon stick

Make the Mulled Gin &amp; Tonic

This non-alcoholic mulled wine is made with juices or alcohol free red wine, plus mulling spices.

Non Alcoholic Mulled Wine Easy

pomegranate juice

cranberry juice

750 mls bottle of non alcoholic Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon

water (see note)

cloves

blackberries (optional)

cinnamon

star anise

orange sliced

brown sugar to taste (see note)

Add all ingredients to a large saucepan and bring to a very low boil on medium-high heat.

Turn heat to low and steam for 20-30 minutes. If you’ve got more time you can leave it up to an hour.

Strain, or remove orange slices and spices.

Pour into a mug and add garnish.

For Stovetop

Add all ingredients to a slow cooker, and cook on low for 1.5 hours

You could add a little more water to this if you wanted to create a larger volume, or dilute the juice a little. 

This pomegranate mulled ‘wine’ would be amazing for my overseas friends who celebrate a chilly Christmas as opposed to our sweltering ones. A big mug while sitting around the open fire, watching the Christmas tree lights twinkle would be divine!

I used organic juice with no artificial sugar, so while there are some natural sugars in this, it is also packed with vitamin C and rich in antioxidants.

Hot Mulled "Spiced" Apple Cider (Wassail)

apple juice (best to be homemade)

orange zest

orange juice (you'd need 1-2 oranges)

water

Wash and chop the apples (I usually half or quarter - big enough to fit into my juicer chute) then pass them through your juicer.If you&#39;re using a blender: you&#39;ll need to add a little water to the blender to help it along. Once blended, strain it through a cheesecloth or nut milk bag. Peel the apples beforehand if preferred. Check all my top tips for how to make apple juice (manual method included) here. 

Sieve the apple juice to remove any leftover pulp and foam.You can leave some of this inside the juice if preferred. Alternatively, check out my recipe notes section for suggestions on how to use this leftover apple pulp.

Zest one of the oranges. Then juice the oranges using your preferred method. You can check my top 3 methods here.

Add the apple juice, orange zest and juice, spices, and ginger to a large enough saucepan. I also add water to dilute the drink a bit - add more or less to preference (you can also add it at the end).

Bring to a boil over medium heat and reduce to a simmer. The longer you simmer, the more intense the flavor will become so I suggest giving it a try once it&#039;s boiled and then continuing to try every 5-10 minutes for up to an hour.If you want a slightly less concentrated flavor then you can add a little water to your preferred level.

Once ready, serve the mulled apple cider warm. Optionally serve with a cinnamon stick and/or slice of orange in each glass for that pièce de résistance.

And leftover spiced apple cider (wassail) can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and reheated (once only) as needed.
