An easy and quicker way to cook mixed grains rice without having to presoak the grains prior to cooking. A convenient alternative to cooking multigrain rice without a fancy rice cooker that has a built in glutinous rice setting!

Instant Pot Korean Multigrain Rice (Japgokbap)

Using measuring cup, measure out desired amount of calrose rice and mixed grains rice in the pot provided by the  Instant Pot machine.

Rinse rice with cool water three times or until water is clear. Drain out as much dirty water as you can after the final rinse.

Add 3.5 cups of fresh water to uncooked rice and pot.

Return pot to Instant Pot machine. Cover with lid and make sure steam release valve is set to &quot;sealing&quot;

Click on the Instant Pot rice setting to cook rice. Total cook time should be 35-40 minutes when using the rice settings. Instant Pot should make a sound when rice is ready. Before opening lid, make sure the Instant Pot is no longer pressurized and that the float valve has dropped before opening. Otherwise, use a kitchen towel to move steam release valve from &quot;sealing&quot; to &quot;venting.&quot; Only open lid once float valve has dropped.

Mix and fluff rice with a rice paddle. Voilá, enjoy!

Korean Purple Rice usually refers to Korean rice that is cooked with black rice which gives it the pretty purple color. Besides giving the rice this beautiful purple hue, black rice adds extra nutty flavor and has great health benefits.

Korean Purple Rice or Black Rice (Heukmi Bap)

Tbsp black sweet rice ((chal heukmi 찰흑미))

In the pot, measure and add white rice and black rice.

Rinse rice by adding water until rice is totally immersed and there's extra water on top. Wash rice well with your hands as if needing a dough. Slowly drain rice water out without spilling the rice out. Repeat at least 1 -2 more times.&nbsp;

With all the excess water drained and discarded, add fresh water into the pot.

fill water to regular rice water line. Rule of thumb in cooking rice is 1:1 rice to water ratio.

Set rice cooker to regular rice cooking time. It was 45 min. on my Cuchen rice cooker.

If using a rice cooker -

Add same amount of water as the rice. e.g. If total of black and white rice is 2 cups, then add 2 cups water.

Set IP to manual HIGH to 9 minutes. Let it natural release for at least 5 min. then you can manually release. If you add more black rice, increase the cooking time.&nbsp;
