A delicious and tasty cheese savoury sandwich filling which is popular in North East England. Made from a mix of grated cheese, carrots, mayonnaise and onion it is perfect for a lunch box sandwich

Cheese Savoury Sandwiches

Bread rolls

cheddar cheese

onion

carrot

mayonnaise

salt and pepper (for seasoning)

Grate the cheese into a bowl.

Peel the onion and carrot and grate these into a bowl with the cheese.

Add the mayonnaise and mix well

Season with salt and pepper

Butter the bread rolls and spoon the filling inside

This local treat is known as Geordie caviar, because it's so well liked in the area. If you haven't had pease pudding before, it's fantastic with a ham sandwich&nbsp;or as a base for winter soups.

Pease Pudding Recipe

500 g Yellow split peas

Liters Water

Large ham shank

tsp Celery salt

Pepper

Salt

Sugar

Medium brown onions (Chopped roughly)

Carrots (Chopped roughly)

Parsnip (Chopped roughly)

Add the 2L of water to a pan and bring to simmer

Add all of the ingredients to the pan and simmer on a medium to high heat for 1hr

Remove the ham and set aside (Use for sandwiches or soup)

Boil uncovered for 30 minutes to reduce mix

Blend the mix and return to lower heat for 15 minutes

Portion out as you like and leave in fridge overnight. This will last around a week in a fridge.&nbsp;
