Onion Pakora – Crispy Onion Fritters

Cup Besan/Chickpea Flour

Nos Large Onions (Thinly Sliced)

½ tsp Red Chili Powder

¼ Tsp Ajwain (Carrom Seeds)

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

tsp Rice Flour

Coriander Leaves (Chopped)

Water (for making batter)

First take a large bowl and add the thinly sliced onions.

Now add the besan/chickpea flour, ajwain, rice flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and mix them thoroughly.

The moisture from the onion will be sufficient for the dough to start getting formed if you require to sprinkle some water to it and again mix it thoroughly.

Meanwhile, bring some oil to heat in a deep pan for deep frying, you test the oil for heat by adding a small ball of the dough. If it lifts to the surface immediately the oil is ready or else wait for a minute or two and start frying.

Drop small balls of batter into the oil and deep fry them till they look crisp and golden in colour.

Remove them with a slotted spoon so the oil can drain from the onion pakoras and transfer them on to a paper towel and let them rest for a&nbsp;minute or so to absorb the rest of the excess oil.

If you are serving them with the fried green chilli, you can fry the green chilli in the same oil.

These Onion fritters are so easy to make, yet are filled with such a great onion flavor. They are quick to prepare, taste great and can be used as a side dish, appetizer, or snack

Amish Onion Fritters

½ C. All-purpose flour

Cornmeal

Tbsp. sugar (Granulated)

Baking powder

½ C. Whole milk

Place all of the ingredients minus the oil into a mixing bowl, and stir together until well combined.

Heat ½ -1 inch of oil in a deep-sided skillet over medium-high heat on the stove.

When the oil has reached a temperature of at least 175 degrees, drop the batter into the skillet by the tablespoonful, spreading it out a bit as you go.

Brown the fritters on one side, flip and brown them on the other before removing to drain on a paper towel lined rack.

Serve with sour cream or your favorite dipping sauce if desired.

Combining thinly sliced onions with a spiced chickpea flour batter and pan-fried until crispy, these onion fritters are gluten-free, egg-free, vegan, and a healthy appetizer, snack, or side dish!

Indian Onion Bhaji

chickpea flour

lime juice ((or lemon juice))

green hot chili pepper (finely chopped)

Tbsp parsley (chopped (or cilantro))

Tbsp oil (for frying (I used coconut))

You can watch the video in the post for visual instructions.First, peel and then use a sharp knife or mandoline to slice the onions into thin strips and set them aside.

In a medium/ large mixing bowl, combine all the remaining ingredients (except the oil) and whisk into a medium-thick batter. If the batter is too thick, add a little more water, one teaspoon at a time.

Stir in the sliced onion (I used my hands), mixing well until they’re fully and evenly coated in batter.

Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium heat with at least one tablespoon of coconut oil. Once hot, use tongs to drop small portions of the battered onions into the pan (I cooked 4 fritters at a time).

Cook the onion bhaji for about 2-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Repeat with the remaining onion mixture and enjoy!
