A simple and easy paleo apple crisp recipe that yields gooey cinnamon apple filling with a delicious crisp topping! The best paleo apple crisp made with whole ingredients. Grain-Free.

Paleo Apple Crisp

apples,

coconut sugar

maple syrup

almond flour

cinnamon

nutmeg

vanilla extract

water (optional)

¾ cup pecans, chopped

coconut flakes coconut chips

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan with coconut oil. Set aside.

In a large bowl, add all Filling ingredients: apples, coconut sugar, maple syrup, almond flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract. Using a rubber spatula, stir and fold until apples are fully coated and sugar has dissolved. If your mixture isn’t very wet, add in water—you’ll want to see 1-2 tablespoons liquid at the bottom of your mixing bowl. I used 1 ½ tablespoons water in mine.

Pour this mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use the spatula to smooth apples into an even layer.

Add all Topping ingredients to a medium bowl. Using a fork, stir and fold until crumbles form. Gently spoon evenly over apples, making sure to keep crumbles intact.

Bake for 40-60 minutes. Mine took 45 minutes. It’s done when the topping is a deep golden brown and the juice around the filling has thickened. To test, use a spoon to carefully lift up a corner of the crisp to see the juices. If it&#8217;s still watery, bake for another 5 minutes.

Allow to cool for 10-15 mins. Serve warm with a scoop with dairy-free ice cream on top. Enjoy! Storing instructions below.

I've had this recipe bookmarked for at least 2 months and I finally made it. It was great!I like this one better than a crisp with oatmeal. And it is just sweet enough to satisfy the sugar cravings.I didn't use the ice cream either.  I used walnuts instead of pecans because that is what I had. The last time I bought nuts at the bulk bin the walnuts were on sale for about $5.00 a pound and the pecans were $10.00 a pound. Easy choice for me.

I am currently on a non-dairy, non-gluten, non-refined sugar dairy and was so thrilled to find this recipe. I make a mean apple crumble (albeit with butter and brown sugar and flour). But your recipe hit the spot. It is fantastic. You don't even notice that the usual ingredients are missing. Awesome job! Thank you so much!

We did a "Thanksgiving in August' last night for family since my entire family won't be together for the holiday. A handful of people are trying to watch their sugar intake so I wanted to make something that fit their dietary needs. And then there were people who are die hard apple pie lovers, and I wanted to make sure they enjoyed it too. Needless to say, it was a hit! Next time, I would add maybe one or two more apples to make it "heartier" since there's no grains in this. Thank you for such a wonderful recipe!

I didn’t peel my apples - why waste all that nutrition and fiber! (Plus it takes too long ;) ) I sliced them thin and they were perfect! I love this recipe so much, and so does my family. Super fast, amazing flavor, and just so darn easy to make. I’m getting ready to try it with peaches right now!

Done &amp; Yum!! I used very ripe peaches and thin sliced them, but not as thin as the apples. And again, I left the skin on. The only thing I changed in Demeter’s recipe, I left out the nutmeg and only baked for 30 minutes and Oh. My. Goodness!! Delicious! Thank you sooo much for an amazing recipe, Demeter!!! This paleo and vegan strawberry cobbler has quickly become a family favorite!  A sweet strawberry layer is baked with a biscuit cobbler topping that’s gluten free, dairy free, and egg free.  It’s perfect served with a big scoop of coconut vanilla ice cream or on its own!  Easy to make and the perfect healthy dessert for Spring and Summer.

Strawberry Cobbler {Paleo, Vegan}

lbs strawberries

lemon juice

tbsps tapioca flour (or arrowroot)

coconut sugar (or maple sugar)

tapioca flour (or arrowroot)

tsp fine grain sea salt

almond milk

tsp pure vanilla extract

Preheat your oven to 375° F and lightly grease a 9 x 13” baking dish with coconut oil.

In a large bowl bowl, combine the strawberries, lemon juice, tapioca and sugar and stir to coat the strawberries.  Transfer to the prepared baking dish and set aside.

In a separate bowl, combine the almond flour, tapioca, baking powder, salt and sugar.  Using a fork or pastry blender, cut the solid coconut oil into the the mixture until crumbly.  Stir in the almond milk and vanilla until a dough forms.

Scoop the dough in about 1/4 cup amounts, flatten with your hands and place all over the strawberry layer.  Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the strawberries are bubbly and topping is golden brown.

Allow to cool for at least 15-20 minutes in the dish, and serve warm, topped with coconut vanilla ice cream if desired.  Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.  Enjoy!

Healthy Apple Crisp

medium apples, peeled, cored,

arrowroot flour

pecans

coconut oil, room temperature (soft but not melted)

Coconut Whipped Cream (optional)

Prep

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 2.5-quart baking dish with coconut oil. 

For the apple filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine the apple slices, lemon juice, and maple syrup. In a separate small bowl, combine the arrowroot, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the arrowroot mixture to the apples and toss to coat. Pour the apple mixture into the baking dish and spread evenly. 

For the crisp topping

In a medium bowl, mix the almond flour, arrowroot flour, coconut sugar, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add the solid coconut oil to the bowl and work it into the dry ingredients using a fork. I like to &#8220;cut&#8221; the coconut oil into the ingredients with the side of the fork until incorporated. Slowly add the maple syrup 1 tablespoon at a time and mix until a wet crumble forms. Crumble the crisp topping evenly overtop the apples in the baking dish.

Bake

 Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the filling is bubbling slightly on the edges.

Serve

Serve with coconut milk ice cream, coconut milk yogurt or coconut whipped cream.

This is the third time my family has made this recipe and we will definitely make it again soon! The only thing(s) we have done differently, were to replace the coconut oil with dairy free butter and to use monk fruit sweetener in replacement of the maple syrup. DELICIOUS.

This is SO GOOD! I swapped arrowroot for tapioca flour (all that I had), and it’s amazing.

I absolutely LOVE this apple crisp.  I switched it up a little by adding my own mix of chopped nuts because I wanted more of a variety of nuts for the health benefits.  This is my new favorite apple crisp.  Thank you!!

Awesome recipe. Tbh I changed a bit. Replacing the nuts with chopped macadamias coz we're Aussie and we love macadamias. I also added extra slivered almonds n flaked almonds - again we love our nuts! 😂 Also added extra nutmeg n cinnamon. I don't measure ingredients I just estimate n it turned out great! Very yummy.
