plum desserts

These easy stewed plums are a deliciously sweet dessert. Plums stewed in syrup are also a great breakfast option taking  just 30 minutes and 6 ingredients.

Stewed Plums

Plums

Cinnamon stick

tsp Vanilla extract

75 g Brown sugar

Orange juice

Water

Put 200 ml Water, 2 tbsp Orange juice, 1 tsp Vanilla extract, 75 g Brown sugar and 1 Cinnamon stick into a saucepan.

Simmer until all the sugar has dissolved and a syrup has formed, about 10 minutes.

Add 6 Plums (halved and de-stoned) to the syrup and return to the heat.

Heat over a low heat, stirring regularly, until the plums have softened - about 20 minutes.

Discard the cinnamon stick and serve.

Made this recipe with my blood plums and lime juice and it was delicious with yoghurt and muesli. Put some in the freezer too. Making another batch today with orange juice and looking forward to serving them to friends. Threw a kilogram of whole plums in and sliced the skins. Used the remaining liquid for a second batch! Very simple recipe that made great use of the plums that I had just picked here in Australia. My wife enjoyed it with our dessert after supper with a bit of plain yoghurt. Thanks for putting it up and the instructions were very helpful.

This recipe was a little overly sugary for me, considering plums are sweet already. It was simple enough to make though, and the cinnamon was a nice touch

I remember my mom making something similar when I was a kid. Simple and delicious.

This was very easy to make, and turned out really good. Great recipe, oh and the color of stewed plums is everything.

The plums are cooked for a short time to keep their shape. But they could also be cooked for much longer if you prefer to make more of a compôte for this spicy late summer dessert.
