pork fried rice

Pork fried rice is probably one of the most popular take-out dishes out there. Classic Chinese take-out pork fried rice is made with Chinese BBQ roast pork.

Classic Pork Fried Rice

water

honey

sesame oil

Shaoxing wine ((or dry cooking sherry))

soy sauce

white pepper

rice oil

onion

pork

salt

bean sprouts

eggs ((scrambled))

scallions ((chopped))

Start by combining the hot water, honey, sesame oil, shaoxing wine (if using), soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and white pepper in a small bowl. This is the sauce that you'll be adding to the rice, and it's much easier to have it combined and ready to go before you start cooking.

Take your cooked rice and fluff it with a fork or with your hands (you can rinse your hands in cold water if the rice starts sticking to them). There shouldn't be any big clumps!

With the wok over medium heat, add a tablespoon of oil and sauté the onions until translucent and then stir in the roast pork. Add the rice and mix well. If the rice is cold from the refrigerator, continue stir-frying until the rice is warmed up, which will take about 5 minutes. If the rice was made fresh, then you just need to mix until everything is incorporated.

Add the sauce mixture and salt and mix with a scooping motion until the rice is evenly coated with sauce. You will have to break up any remaining clumps of rice with the spatula as best as possible, but no need to be obsessive. The rice should be hot by this time.

Toss in your mung bean sprouts, scrambled eggs, and scallions. Mix thoroughly for another minute or two and serve!

Ahead of time, you'll want to cook your rice. Rice typically triples in size when it cooks, so you'll need at least 1 1/3 cups uncooked rice to start with. I typically make more just to have it on hand for the kids. You want the cooked rice to be cold when you make the pork fried rice, so if you need to chill it quickly, you can spread a thin layer on a cookie sheet and place in the refrigerator or even freezer.

Cut the pork tenderloin into very small pieces. This is easier if the meat is partially frozen and you use a serrated edge knife.

In a very large pan over medium heat, melt 1 T of the butter. Add the whisked egg and cook to a slightly underdone scramble. Transfer to a plate.

Increase heat under pan to medium high and melt another 1 T of butter. Add the tenderloin pieces, stirring only occasionally in order to get them to brown. Once mostly cooked, add the garlic, stir, and cook for a few more minutes. Transfer to a large plate.

Add another 1 T of butter to the pan. Saute the carrots, onion, and peas until slightly golden brown, stirring only occasionally. When done, transfer to the plate with the meat.

Add the remaining 2 T of butter to the pan. Add the cold rice and spread to an even layer. Allow to cook for a couple minutes before stirring to get the bottom layer to crisp up a bit. Then give it a good stir to heat through. Add meat and veggies back to the pan (along with any juices on the plate). Stir to combine to heat through. Add scrambled egg, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. Stir to combine. Add salt and pepper and additional soy sauce and/or sesame oil, if needed.

Serve warm.

This fied rice recipe was very easy to make, and it's absolutly delisiuos!

I used quinoa instead of rice and used coconut aminos instead of soy sauce and added a little salt and it was absolutely amazing! Thanks for a great recipe!10 stars!

Made it and won’t have takeout for awhile it was tasty,

My boyfriend and I love this recipe! Made it twice already. The pineapple adds such great flavor. Skipped it once. It’s a must.

Tasty and simple!

I opted for fresh garlic and ginger and also fried the pork mince with some chilli garlic sauce for extra oomph!

Great for work lunch/leftovers too.

I’ve always been skeptical of making Asian food, it never tastes as good as in the restaurants. But WOW this blows it out of the water! This is one of my favorite dishes to make and my family loves it! I add a little less sesame oil and some rice wine vinegar for acidity, it one of my go tos!

I made this in Hawaii for the family while on vacation ( gluten free too). My 9 year old grandson loved it so much he ate cold leftovers in the airport on our way home . His birthday is this weekend and this is his requested meal.

Used vegetable oil instead of sesame. Delicious and easy to follow!

Lot a lot of your recipes, but this was my FAVORITE! I did some substitutions due to dieting; used cauliflower rice instead of white rice and coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Even with the subs, still DELICIOUS! I could only imagine what this tasted like with the soy and white rice. Your recipes never fail!

Delicious Made this tonight for the family and everyone fell in love with it and it’s super wasy
