These easy vegan and gluten free flatbreads are made out red lentils. Great to accompany your favourite curry.

Red Lentil Flatbreads

curry powder

tsp salt

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl or directly in your blender.

Leave to soak for 1 hour.

Blend the mixture (don&#39;t drain it) until you have a thick batter. The batter should be like very thick pancake batter and relatively smooth (a bit grainy is normal). If your blender isn&#39;t very powerful and the lentils are not well blended, then rest for another 15 minutes and blend again.

Heat up a non stick frying pan or seasoned cast iron skillet with a small amount of oil in.

For each flatbread, spoon 2 or 3 tablespoons of batter into your pan. Cook on medium high heat for 1-2 minutes until the surface has some bubbles. Then flip with a spatula, and cook for 1-2 minutes more until lightly brown on the underside and cooked all the way through.

Continue until you&#039;ve cooked all your flatbreads. You can keep the flatbreads warm by stacking them on a plate and covering with a tea towel.

I made this without the curry powder to start,  I think I must have had the temperature too high as it did not work out well.  I used a non-stick skillet with a little bit of oil.  But the flatbreads tore apart when I tried to turn them.  I will try again but use my cast iron skillet the next time and hope for a better turn out.

yummy. I made mine a little thick. Next time I will spread more thinly. I used a bit of oil to cook, well more like fry. I might experiment with other flavours and maybe a sweet version for dessert

This recipe looks simple and easy to follow! I'm excited to try it, but I'm a bit worried about the lectins in the lentils. I've heard that soaking them removes them, but should be done for at least 2 hours? Plus you should replace the water that was used to soak them in for fresh water? Would you recommend this for this recipe to ensure there is no chance of getting ill?

Hi we are having so much trouble with them sticking to our non stick pan. Tried them on high heat and medium small amounts of coconut oil and lots nothing is making a difference. Any advice please ?

Excellent! Was too watery at first, but the 15 minutes extra, as directed, did the trick. My coeliac guests couldn't believe they we so simple to make ... and delicious :)

This simple recipe only uses red lentils, water and flavourings to make amazing flatbreads. A great side dish to currys, a great snack with some chutney.

Easy 1 ingredient red lentil tortillas that are grain-free, oil-free, vegan, high in protein (6.5 grams) &amp; high in fiber (7 grams) each.

1 Ingredient Red Lentil Tortillas (Grain Free Recipe)

DRY (uncooked/raw) split

fine sea salt (more

Soak

Combine the rinsed lentils and 2 cups water in a medium bowl or other container; loosely cover. Let stand, at room temperature, for at least 6 hours or up to 12 hours.

Do not drain

Blend

Add the entire contents of bowl (soaked lentils and the remaining water that is in the bowl) and salt to a blender or food processor. Blend on HIGH speed until completely smooth (no tiny bumps) stopping once or twice to scrape down the sides of container. The batter should look somewhat fluffy. Scrape into a bowl or measuring cup.

Heat

Heat a nonstick skillet (well-seasoned cast iron skillet is ideal), or a nonstick griddle, to medium heat (no hotter).

Portion

Once warm, add 1/4 cup (60 mL)  of batter to the center of the pan (the recipe yields 2 cups--500 mL-- of batter). Using a metal spoon, spread the batter into a 6-inch (15 cm) circle.

Cook

Cook1 to 1.5 minutes until surface of tortilla appears dry. Slide a spatula underneath and flip. Cook about 1 minute longer to brown other side. Transfer to cooling rack and cool completely.

Repeat

Simple and delicious.   My favorite types of recipes.

I love these! But I’m confused about the carb count. My research says that a cup of red lentils is 38 carbs of which 15 is fiber. So if I make 8 tortillas wouldn’t that be 4.75 total carbs?

I made these today, and they turned out great! I only messed up one, and it was because it was too thick and didn't cook enough before trying to flip.  

I added some pepper and chili powder to them as I'm going to eat them with my chili I made.

I was originally thinking of making a nut butter with sliced strawberry folded tortilla to use as a dessert, but the lentil flavor is pretty strong so not sure how it would taste. I might make them into a roll up with hummus and roasted pepper strips for lunch/snack. 😋

Wonderful wraps! I got a new nonstick ceramic skillet and they are easier than ever to make. For others: they work with every kind of lentil (green, black, tan, red), I've used them all, they are all great!
