One of the best homemade candies you can make with only two ingredients: Sesame seeds and sugar.

Crunchy Sesame Seed Candy Recipe

Toast the raw sesame seeds in a non-stick pan until golden, for 6-8 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally. When they are golden brown and spread a nice nutty smell, remove the pan from the heat. Immediately transfer them into a bowl, otherwise they might get burnt due to the heat of the pan. 

Put the sugar in a large pan and let it melt over medium heat. Do NOT stir it, swirl the pan instead to avoid crystallization. When some parts of the sugar melts and some parts of it remains as it is, use a heat-proof spatula with a long handle and fold the melted sugar on the unmelted sugar. This will help the melted sugar not to burn and unmelted sugar to melt. Swirl the pan again for a few times. Repeat the same step for any unmelted sugar. 

When the sugar completely melts and turns into an amber color, remove it from the heat. Immediately add in the toasted sesame seeds and give it a good stir. Make sure they are combined well. 

Transfer the caramelized sesame seeds onto a parchment paper and spread it with a spatula. It will be too hot, so be careful and don’t touch it.

Place another parchment sheet on the sticky sesame seeds and level the mixture with a rolling pin. 

Slice with a sharp knife when it is still hot. You can cut it into squares, triangles or rectangles. And they don’t have to look perfect.

Let them cool completely and store in jars or airtight containers at room temperatures for several weeks.

Sesame Candy Crunch

This crunchy sesame seed candy is so easy to make! It&#039;s a candy sweetened with honey or maple syrup and you can add nuts for extra flavor.

pistachios (optional, shelled and roughly chopped)

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Heat a heavy, wide-bottomed sauté pan over medium-high heat.

Add the sesame seeds and toast lightly, about 2 minutes, stirring vigorously so they toast evenly. Keep a careful eye on the sesame seeds as they go from toasted to burnt really quickly. As soon as they start to brown, remove from heat.

In a medium saucepan on medium heat, add maple syrup, orange zest, orange juice, and sugar and bring to a simmer.

Lower to medium-low and continue to simmer for another five minutes, stirring regularly.

Remove from heat and stir in sesame seeds and pistachios.

Pour over a small baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Use a spatula to distribute the candy evenly. It should be a little shy of 1/2 inch thick.

Bake for 20 minutes. As ovens vary, be sure to check close to the end of the bake; if the sesame seeds look like they are about to burn, remove the candy from the oven early.

Cool to room temperature. Then, snap into pieces and enjoy!

Good but unique flavors are cancelled out.

This versatile brittle is shiny, toasty, and honey sweetened. Make it in a mold or pour in in a pan and break into pieces for sweet and crunchy little snacks.

Honey Sesame Brittle

salt

water

vanilla extract

unsalted butter

baking soda

In a medium saucepan (1 ½- 2 quarts) over medium-low heat, stir together sugar, honey, salt, and water until combined and liquid, just until small bubbles begin to form on the edges.

Add the sesame seeds and stir continually (about 5 minutes) until the mixture turns an amber color and reaches 300°F.

Remove pan from heat and immediately stir in butter and vanilla.

Mix in the baking soda. The mixture will foam slightly, creating a lighter, airier brittle.

IF USING CANDY MOLDS: Work quickly (the mixture hardens as it cools) but carefully (the mixture is very hot) spooning the brittle into each mold. If the molds are deep, fill only partially for easier eating.

IF POURING OUT ONE LARGE PIECE OF BRITTLE: Cover a baking sheet with a silicone mat (non-stick baking mat) or butter the baking sheet. Pour the hot mixture onto the lines baking sheet. Gently shake the sheet back and forth a few times to help distribute the mixture into an even layer.
