This easy FOOLPROOF Slow Cooker Gammon recipe is perfect for Christmas or any time of year. Cooked in apple juice and cider with spices for immense flavour, it's then smothered in honey, mustard and brown sugar for a quick roast to give a delicious outer crunch.

Slow Cooker Gammon {Best Ever Ham!}

Gammon joint (boneless, smoked or unsmoked) (About 2kg)

Carrot (Peeled and quartered)

Onion (Peeled and quartered)

tbsp Mixed spice (See notes for substitutes)

500 ml Cider (Dry

juice

tbsp Runny honey

tbsp Soft dark brown sugar

tbsp English mustard powder (Optional)

Put the slow cook ingredients into the slow cooker. Place the lid on and cook on HIGH for 4-6 hours or LOW for 6-8 hours. If you can, turn the joint over and baste it halfway through cooking time.

When the cooking time is complete, take the meat out of the slow cooker and discard the vegetables and liquid.

Preheat the oven to 200℃/400F fan, 220℃/425F or Gas Mark 7 and line a roasting tin with two layers of tin foil or use a disposable tin-foil tray. (This is important, as the glaze is incredible hard to scrub off!)

Remove the string and layer of skin (if you gammon has them) and use a sharp knife to score the fat. Sit the ham in the lined pan and drench it with honey. Pat the sugar (and mustard powder if you're using it) onto the honey. Roast for 30 minutes until the ham is just turning black at the edges.

To make in the Slow Cooker:

Work out the cooking time of your gammon joint by calculating 30 minutes per 450g/1lb, plus an additional 30 minutes. Put the ‘slow cook’ ingredients into a large saucepan and boil on the hob over a medium heat for the total cooking time minus 30 minutes.

This is so good. Utterly delicious.
Just wondering if the cooked ham can be frozen? I fancy batch cooking a bigger joint and saving it for sandwiches.

Delish 🤤
I did mix it up a bit thou’ swapped the apple for OJ - swapped out the cider for a miniature of Jack Daniel’s and then added a couple of dollops of marmalade- it was so moist and the gammon literally melted in the mouth - thanks for the inspo Sarah and team 🧡

Me my wife and my son thoroughly enjoyed this recipe so tasty and moist and so easy.

Absolutely smashing recipe. First time doing a glazed ham, won’t be the last!

Couldn’t stand so much mixed spice smell, apologies it’s down to overly mulled wine prepared many years ago at a London theatre. So, I discarded the liquor after 4 hours and refreshed with cider and veg. Just baked in the dark brown sugar mustard and honey and perfect so many thanks.

Absolutely delicious - recipe was spot on and it was loved by all my guests

It has been slow cooking all day and to be honest the sweet smell has made me feel queasy. It’s now come out of the slow cooker and tastes absolutely amazing. It’s not even gone in the oven yet but I could quite easily eat far too much of it just picking at it.

Trust all the taming twins recipes!! This ham didn’t disappoint. May well be the best ham I have ever made. The mild apple/cider flavour is insane!
