Bring out your child’s inner artist with healthy fruit and vegetable bug snacks! These cute little bugs are a fun and easy recipe for kids. This recipe is gluten free, vegan and low-sodium.

Fruit and Vegetable Bug Snacks

Prepare the googly eyes

Use a straw to cut out black olive pupils. Pipe small dots of cream cheese onto a plate. Top with black olive pupils. Freeze the dots of cream cheese for easier assembly.

Prepare fruit and vegetables, refer to preparation photos for a visual guide of the many ways you can prepare the ingredients.

Scoop seeds from mini cucumbers. Cut a flat edge on the bottoms of celery sticks and mini cucumbers to help them stand up once they’ve been decorated as bugs.

Fill celery stalks and/or mini cucumbers with cream cheese, using a piping bag or spoon.

Snails

Start with a fruit or vegetable round for the shell. Stick chilled googly eyes onto cherry tomato heads, cashew heads, or grapes. Insert chives or thin-sliced apples (with skins) into the cherry tomato heads for antennae.

Vegetable Bugs

Fill celery stalks with peanut butter, using a piping bag or spoon. These will be the base to all of the fruit and vegetable bugs you make.

Caterpillars

Stick chilled googly eyes onto cherry tomato or grape heads. Add chive or apple antennae. Make the body with a line of cherry tomatoes, grapes, blueberries, or cereal.

Collect up your ingredients for making trail mix. I like to get a few things from each category though if we are hiking somewhere hot, I'll leave out the chocolate category so that it doesn't melt into a mess.

Put the assorted ingredients into different bowls or into the cups of a muffin tin.

Give your kids baggies/sacks/tupperware and let them pick and choose what they would like in their trail mix.

Toss any "leftovers" from the bowls into a big bag. We call that "family trail mix" and we share it when their individual bags are gone.

Go on an adventure and enjoy when you need a snack.

Cut the celery into chunks, then fill hallowed out part of the celery with a spread of peanut butter.

Place raisins on top of the peanut butter and enjoy! This snack is fun for kids to help with too.

Cut up the banana into seven slices. Arrange them in a circle, with one in the middle.

Put the chocolate chips in the middle.

Put the almonds between the banana slices.

Place the pretzel stick at the bottom and use the mandarin slices as pedals.

Flower Power Banana Snack Instructions

Cut the piece of bread into an oval. Spread the peanut butter on the bread.

Use the pretzels to make a mouth and a walnut for the nose.

Use the remaining pretzels to outline a head. Place 2 banana slices above the bread and put the M&amp;Ms on them to make the eyes.

Use the string for the monkey’s hair.

Place the mandarin slices on the sides to make ears.

Monkey Banana Snack Instructions

Cut the piece of bread into a heart. Spread the jam on the bread. Shape the chocolate chips into a heart in the center of the bread.

Cut the banana into slices, and the slices in half, and outline the bread with them. Place the pink M&amp;Ms on top of the slices.

Use the cheese stick to shape an arrow and shape it so it’s going through the heart.

Valentine Banana Snack Instructions

Cut the piece of bread in half diagonally so it makes two triangles. Place them so the flat side faces the outside of the plate.

Cut the banana into slices and line them down the middle of the plate, over the top of the piece of bread.

Use the pretzels to make the antennas, and the chocolate chips to make the face.

Decorate the pieces of bread with the jam, mandarins, cheese and extra M&amp;Ms.

Butterfly Banana Snack Instructions

Cut the banana into slices and line them in a wave across your plate. Place M&amp;Ms on top of the slices of banana in a line.

Use the pretzels to make the antennas and feet. Place the raisins on the end of the pretzel sticks for the feet.

Use leftover M&amp;Ms to decorate the face.

Caterpillar Banana Snack Instructions

Slice the banana.

Put 3 slices of banana on a popsicle stick the long way.

Use the pretzel sticks for the arms.

Put the chocolate chips on the slices to make the eyes and buttons.

Use the string cheese, almonds, cashews and mandarin oranges to decorate the heads.

Snowmen Banana Snack Ingredients

Spread the peanut butter on the slice of bread.

Slice the banana. Place one whole slice in the middle, with a brown M&amp;M on top to make the nose. Take a banana slice and cut it in half, placing it above the slice of bread on the bumps to make the bear’s ears.

Use two other brown M&amp;Ms to make the eyes.

Put a cashew near the bottom of the bread to make the mouth.

Bear Banana Snack Instructions

Slice the banana. Stick a slice of banana on both sides of the pretzel sticks.

Place two of these banana/pretzel sticks next to each other and place a graham cracker going over the top.

Use leftover pretzel sticks to make a raceway!

Car Banana Snack Instructions

Slice the banana into four parts. Flip every other slice so the banana curves like a snake.

Cut the fruit leather into strips and lay them on top of the banana to decorate. Place one strip coming out of the top of the banana for a tongue.

Place the chocolate chips in the front for eyes.

Snake Banana Snack Instructions

Break the graham cracker to make a square. Place the square in the middle of the plate.

Use 2 pretzel sticks on the side to make the arms and one on the top to make the neck.

Place two half slices of banana on top of the neck. Put the 2 M&amp;Ms on top of the slices to make the eyes.
