Sopapillas are light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet with a touch of honey or powdered sugar on top!

flour

baking powder

sugar

salt

vegetable shortening

water (not boiling)

vegetable oil (for frying (48 ounces))

sugar (for dusting)

¼ -½ cup honey (for drizzling)

Whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together. Cut in the shortening and combine thoroughly.

Add water and stir until the dough starts to come together.

Sprinkle a bit of extra flour on a countertop and turn the dough out onto it.

Knead it for about 5 minutes, adding a sprinkle of flour if it becomes sticky.

Place the dough back in the mixing bowl, cover with a towel and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat oil to 350°F in a deep-frying pan over medium heat.

While the oil is heating, roll the dough out to between 1/8&quot; to 1/4&quot; thickness

Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into 16-20 equal pieces.

Carefully drop 4-5 pieces into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until both sides have puffed up and turned a golden.

Remove from the oil and drain them over a cookie cooling rack or a plate with a paper towel.

Once cooled, sprinkle them with a bit of powdered sugar and serve with honey for drizzling.

Tortas Fritas, receta fácil y económica!

Harina de Trigo 500 Gr.

Agua Tibia 250 Ml.

Grasa 100 Gr.

Polvo para Hornear 10 Gr.

Sal 10 Gr.

Aceite o Grasa para freír

Colocar en un bowl la harina, polvo de hornear, sal, mezclar y formar una corona.Agregar la grasa fundida y el agua tibia.La grasa se puede reemplazar por aceite en la misma cantidad.

Mezclar hasta incorporar los ingredientes y bajar la masa a una superficie plana.Amasar hasta lograr un bollo parejo.Cubrir y dejar descansar de 2 a 6 horas en la refrigerado.Se puede evitar el descanso, pero mientras más descanse la masa, más aireada será luego al cocinarla.

Cortar trozos de masa de aproximadamente 20/30 gramos.Formar un bollo y estirar con palo hasta dejarla fina.El espesor de la masa es a gusto, a nosotros nos gustan finas pero se pueden dejar más gruesas que no afecta para nada el resultado final.

Freír cada masa en aceite o grasa caliente, no debe estar muy caliente para evitar que quede cruda la masa en el centro.Para saber si está muy caliente, agregar la primer masa, ésta debe ir hasta el fondo de a olla y luego de unos segundos subir. Sí sube enseguida es porque está muy caliente, bajar el fuego y volver a probar.

Freír hasta dorar. Es normal que se llenen de burbujas, más si la masa tuvo un buen descanso.Durante la cocción girar la masa, para lograr una cocción pareja de cada lado.A medida que salen, colocar sobre papel absorbente para escurrir el excedente de aceite.Opcionalmente se pueden cubrir con azúcar, recomendamos hacerlo en caliente para que se adhiera más fácil a la torta frita.

With this easy Sopaipilla recipe, you will be able to make crispy, light, and delicious Sopapillas at home.

Sopapillas at Home

tbsp. shortening

water

vegetable oil

For dusting & drizzling:

confectioners sugar

cinnamon

tbsp. honey

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the shortening, and use your hands to integrate it well with the flour.

Pour the hot water into the bowl, little by little. Work the dough with your fingers, mixing the dry ingredients with the water until you form a dough.

On your table or countertop, knead the dough for about 4-5 minutes until it is smooth. Form a ball with the dough and place it back in the bowl.

Cover the dough with a plastic or kitchen napkin and let it rest for at least 20 minutes. This resting time helps the gluten to develop and make it easy for you to roll out the dough and form the sopapillas.

After the resting time, slightly knead the dough again and then form it back into a ball. Flatten the ball a little bit, then cut it into 4 pieces using a knife or a pastry cutter.

Pour the oil into a large pot and turn the heat to medium-low. The oil should reach an average temperature of 350ºF.

Roll the 4 pieces of dough to form smaller balls. Place one on your working surface and set the other 3 pieces aside, covered with plastic wrap. Form a round disk with the dough using a rolling pin. The disc should be about 6 inches in diameter, and ⅛ to ¼ of an inch in thickness.

Once you form the disc, cut it into four pieces. These pieces will look like triangles. Carefully place each one into the hot oil. Make sure you do not overcrowd the pot. Once the dough triangles are in the oil, they will inflate almost immediately. Continue cooking until the bottoms of the sopapillas are medium golden, then turn them to cook on the other side until light brown and crispy. The sopapillas will take a total of about 4-5 minutes to cook completely.

Remove the sopaipillas from the oil using a slotted spatula, and place them on a plate covered with paper towels (to absorb any excess oil) Follow steps 6-8 to continue forming and cooking the remaining sopapillas.

To serve the sopaipillas, dust them with the confectioner’s sugar and ground cinnamon, and then drizzle them with honey (or Piloncillo syrup, if you have any).

Delicious homemade Sopapillas are fluffy, lightly crispy, and absolutely delicious dusted with powdered sugar and a drizzle of honey. They are ready in just 30 minutes and you won&#039;t believe how easy they are to make.

all-purpose flour

+ 1 tablespoon warm water

Make Dough: Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Add the shortening and cut it in with forks or a pastry blender. Gradually stir in water until the mixture comes together. Knead the dough in the bowl for a few minutes until smooth.

Rest: Cover the bowl tightly and allow the dough to rest for 20 minutes.

Heat Oil: Meanwhile, add about 1-2 inches of oil to a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Roll dough into a square about 1/8-inch thick. Cut three strips vertically and horizontally to make 9 pieces.

Fry: Once the oil is hot, use tongs to lay a square of dough very carefully into the hot oil. It will sink to the bottom and then begin to float to the top of the oil. Once it floats to the top, lightly spoon hot oil over the top of it as it cooks, which will help it to pillow-up. Cook for about 30 seconds and then flip to the other side and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Remove to a paper towel lined plate.

Serve dusted with powdered sugar and a drizzle of honey, or sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

Store leftover sopapillas at room temperature for 1-2 days.
