Sourdough Brownies Recipe

unsalted butter

chocolate chips

dutched cocoa powder (or regular cocoa powder)

vanilla extract

eggs

sugar

dark brown sugar

sourdough starter discard

all-purpose flour

salt

Preheat

Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C) and line a 9&quot; x 9&quot; baking dish with parchment paper.

Melt

Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the chocolate chips, vanilla extract and dutched cocoa powder. Stir the ingredients until the chocolate chips have melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove the saucepan from the burner and set it aside to cool down.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, brown sugar and granulated sugar with an electric mixer for 7-10 minutes. Add the sourdough discard and chocolate mixture to the bowl beat on low until combined. Add the flour and salt and stir with a spatula until just combined. (The batter will be very thick.)

Bake

Pour the batter into the baking dish and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes.

Cool

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan after they come out of the oven. Remove the brownies from the pan by lifting them with the parchment paper and cut into squares.

Sourdough Brownies

Easy to make and fully fermented, these fudgy skillet brownies have clean ingredients with the addition of gut-healthy sourdough starter!

Sourdough Skillet Brownies

butter

eggs (room temperature)

coconut sugar

organic cane sugar

tsp vanilla extract

tsp salt

sourdough starter

cocoa or cacao powder

tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Melt butter in cast iron skillet or large saucepan over medium low heat.

Add chocolate chips and stir until melted.

Remove skillet from heat. Whisk in eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt until fully combined.

Add sourdough starter and mix.

Add cocoa powder and whisk until fully combined.

Sprinkle baking soda over batter and whisk again until thoroughly mixed.

Transfer to glass baking dish if not using cast iron and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Cool completely before cutting and serving. (unless you don&#39;t mind crumbly brownies!)

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

These sourdough brownies are absolutely delicious, Fudgy on the inside with that typical crakly tops and a slight sourdough tang. The perfect chocolate dessert.

unsalted butter (8 tablespoons)

vanilla

flour

cocoa powder

sourdough discard

Preheat the oven to 350 and prepare a 9×9 pan by lining with parchment paper.

In a medium saucepan over low/medium heat, melt butter. Take off heat and add chocolate chips and vanilla. Stir until all melted together.

In a medium or large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir to combine.

Pour chocolate butter mixture into the dry ingredients.

Add in eggs and sourdough discard.

Stir well until there are no clumps.

Pour into prepared pan.

Bake 40 minutes in prepared 9 X9 pan or until a toothpick comes out clean and the middle is set.

Allow to cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help it set up and also develop the flavors.

Delicious! I love the tangy undertone from the sourdough. I was a little concerned because my batter looked grainy (I’m assuming the sugar not being dissolved?) but they were grainy in texture when baked 🤷🏼‍♀️ Next time I think I’ll try the chocolate melting tablets instead of chocolate chips because I’ve read elsewhere that chocolate chips have a lot of preservatives or other additives to help them stay stable … any way… it was an awesome recipe. Thanks!

I used einkorn fmf in place of the all purpose. I milled 140g of einkorn (1 cup) , mixed all ingredients together and let sit on the counter for 24hrs. They turned out amazing!

Thanks for a new family favourite. The fudgy texture is perfectly the way we like our brownies. I use rye flour, which plays up the chocolate and sourdough perfectly. Sometimes I sprinkle in a handful of walnuts or pecans as I pour the batter into the baking pan.

Made with "flax eggs" in place of regular eggs, fermented in a very warm spot for about an hour (better to have even a little extra fermentation rather than just using discard), then baked.  These turned out so chocolate-y and delicious!  Thanks for a terrific recipe.

Triple Chocolate Brownie mix

Vegetable Oil

Sourdough Starter/Discard

tsp Vanilla Extract

Preheat oven to 350F and line a 8X8 inch pan with a parchment paper and set aside.

In a medium bowl add ½ cup oil and  2 eggs and mix well to this add sourdough stater and vanilla extract and combine everything well.

To this add box triple chocolate brownie mix and combine well.

Transfer the brownie batter into a prepared tin. Bake 350F for 20-22 minutes or until toothpick comes with little moist crumb .

Once it is cooled down, slice and enjoy with scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I saw this recipe when you posted it in one of the sourdough Facebook groups and had to try it immediately! The brownies were so good! The use of discard is a great, soft twist on the boxed brownie.
