This creamy coleslaw is a classic southern recipe made with shredded cabbage, carrots, and a sweet creamy dressing. Serve this coleslaw up with some delicious barbecue or fried fish for an authentic southern meal!

Classic Creamy Southern Coleslaw

carrots

mayonnaise

sugar

apple cider vinegar

yellow mustard

lemon juice (fresh squeezed)

salt

black pepper (to taste)

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until everything is combined.

Add the shredded cabbage and carrots to a large mixing bowl and pour the dressing over the cabbage. Toss everything together with a wooden spoon or silicone-tipped tongs so that all of the cabbage is coated with the dressing. Servecoleslaw immediately.

Easy Homemade Coleslaw

tri-color coleslaw mix (bag)

mayonnaise ((add more to taste 1 tablespoon at the time))

buttermilk ((can sub sour cream ⅓ cup))

white granulated sugar

white vinegar

salt (or

black pepper

onion powder (or 1 teaspoon fresh grated onion

celery seeds (to taste)

Make the Dressing: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, buttermilk (or sour cream), sugar, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, onion powder (or fresh grated onion), and celery seeds until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the sugar or seasoning to your preference.

Add the Slaw Mix: Pour in the bagged tricolor slaw mix (or your homemade blend of green cabbage, purple cabbage, and carrots). Toss everything together until the cabbage is well coated in the dressing.

Chill: Cover and refrigerate for about 1 hour to let the flavors come together and the slaw soften slightly.

Serve: Toss before serving. Enjoy chilled with your favorite BBQ or weeknight meal!

I just made this.YUM! I had small head of cabbage which ended up being 22 oz shredded so I slightly increased the other ingredients. Turned out fine using fresh orange juice instead of lemon juice. Keeping this recipe!
