Spam Fried Rice. Delicious, savoury, and filling. Perfect for dinner or lunch as leftovers. Comes together in 30 minutes.

Spam Fried Rice (30-min. Recipe)

tbsp avocado oil

spam (diced)

shallot (finely chopped)

green onions (finely chopped)

garlic

corn (frozen)

peas (v)

carrots (diced)

eggs

rice (cooked)

soy sauce

tbsp dark soy sauce

butter

tsp salt

tsp sesame oil

In a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat, fry your spam until golden brown on each side.  Then toss in your shallots. Fry until the shallots have softened.

Next add in avocado oil, green onions and garlic. Give this is a stir and push this to the side of your pan.

Then add in corn, peas and carrots.  Fry and combine with the other ingredients. Then push this to the side.

Pour in your whisked eggs.  Allow this to cook and then break into bite size pieces.  Push this to the side.

Add in cooked rice followed by soy sauce, dark soy sauce, butter, and salt.  Toss until the rice and other ingredients are well combined and evenly coated.  Every grain should be brown.

Turn off the heat and drizzle sesame oil over. This should be the last step as sesame oil tends to change taste when it's over heated.

15-Minute Omurice (Japanese Omelette Rice)

vegetable oil (divided)

green onion (white parts)

onion (diced)

(30 g) carrot (diced)

100 g spam

2-3 (50 g) button mushrooms (diced)

rice (preferably day-old (see notes below))

tbsp ketchup

eggs (large)

tbsp milk

salt

ketchup and parsley (optional) (for garnish)

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat, and add green onion and onion. Cook until fragrant. Add carrot, spam, and mushroom, and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Add rice, soy sauce, and ketchup and mix to combine, ensuring all grains are evenly coated. Add to a small bowl and press down to shape the rice.

Combine eggs, milk, and salt in a bowl. Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat, and pour in the egg mixture. Lightly scramble for a few seconds until the eggs are about 80% cooked through, and remove from heat.

Place a large plate over the bowl of rice, hold it in the center, and flip carefully to plate the rice in a dome shape. Cover the rice with the egg omelette, and garnish with ketchup and parsley to serve. Enjoy!

Quick Spam Fried Rice

tbsp oil (divided)

eggs (beaten)

oz Spam (low sodium preferred)

garlic (minced)

peas (thawed)

corn kernel (thawed)

rice

oyster sauce

tsp white pepper (or black pepper)

To make the fried riced sauce, mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.

Heat a tablespoon of oil in a wok or a large skillet over med-high heat. Add the beaten eggs and stir until they are half cooked (still slightly wet). Transfer the eggs to a plate and set aside.

Heat another tablespoon of oil, add Spam pieces and fry until they are crisp and slightly browned, about 2-3 minutes. Add garlic, green onion and stir fry for 1 minute.

Add peas and corn and continue to fry for 30 seconds. Add rice and toss with spam and vegetables until rice grains are separated and well incorporated.

Pour the sauce over and toss well with fried rice. Add the reserved scramble egg and continue to toss to heat through. Serve hot.

Spam Fried Rice

white rice (uncooked measurement)

Spam (12 oz)

veggies

scallions (greens and whites separated)

tbsp sugar

tsp white pepper

tsp kosher salt

tsp msg

tbsp low sodium light soy sauce

sesame seeds (garnish)

tbsp neutral oil

Dice spam into bite size pieces. In a wok or large pan, cook for over medium high heat in 1 tbsp neutral oil until crispy and the fat has rendered, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside.

In the same oil, add garlic and scallion whites for 15 seconds, followed by frozen veggies for 1-2 minutes

Push the vegetables to the side and add 1 tbsp of neutral oil to the empty part of the pan. Add beaten egg until 80% cooked through and mix into the vegetables.

Add the rice and cook until dry over high heat. Season with soy sauce, salt, white pepper, sugar, msg. Add back cooked spam and toss until thoroughly mixed.

Finish with a drizzle of sesame oil and sesame seeds and enjoy!

This Spam fried rice is made with seared Spam, eggs, vegetables and rice, all cooked together with seasonings to make a quick and easy meal. A great way to have an economical and flavorful dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes!

can Spam (cut into 1/2 inch pieces)

onion

carrots (peeled, quartered and sliced)

ginger

eggs (lightly beaten)

rice rice

soy sauce (low sodium)

sesame oil

salt and pepper

Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a large pan over medium high heat.

Place the Spam pieces in a single layer in the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until meat is browned.

Remove the Spam from the pan. Place it on a plate then cover with foil to keep warm.

Pour 1 teaspoon of oil into the pan, then add the onion and carrots. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until veggies are softened. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper.

Add the garlic and ginger, then cook for 30 seconds.

Remove the vegetables from the pan. Place them on the plate with the Spam and cover with foil to keep warm.

Pour the remaining teaspoon of oil into the pan. Add the eggs and cook, stirring occasionally and breaking up with a spatula, until the eggs are scrambled. Add a bit of salt and pepper to the eggs.

Add the rice, Spam, cooked veggies and peas into the pan.

Stir in the soy sauce and sesame oil and mix until everything is thoroughly combined and warmed through, about 4-5 minutes.

Sprinkle green onions over the top of the rice mixture, then serve and enjoy.

SPAM® Teriyaki, diced

vegetable oil, divided

eggs, beaten

carrots

red bell pepper

HOUSE OF TSANG® soy sauce

Add eggs. Cook, stirring to desired doneness. Remove from skillet and set aside.

In same skillet, heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Cook SPAM® Teriyaki, carrots, green onions, and bell pepper for 4 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

Stir in rice and egg. Sprinkle with soy sauce. Heat thoroughly.

Garnish as desired with additional green onion.

Growing up a favourite of mine was spam fried rice so I wanted to create a vegan version of it using tofu! So here’s a Vegan Tofu “Spam” Fried Rice made using homemade tofu “spam”. I used a mix of short grain rice and a bit of quinoa for the fried rice and coloured it with some turmeric powder.

Vegan Tofu “Spam” Fried Rice

sesame oil (or neutral oil, for cooking)

corn, peas, and carrots mix (I used a frozen mix (see notes))

shiitake mushrooms mushrooms (diced)

tsp salt (or more to taste, if needed (see notes))

turmeric powder (for colour)

vegan tofu spam (cubes)

white pepper (or ground black pepper (see notes))

scallions (optional)

Prepare the veggies, tofu “spam”, and leftover rice/grain of choice.

Heat a large non-stick pan or skillet over medium high heat.

Add in some oil to the pan.

Add in the garlic and onion. Sauté for 1 minute.

Add in the veggies and mushrooms.

Season with some salt and pepper. This will be a bit salty but once you mix it with the rice it’ll be just right!

Add in the rice.

Carefully break apart the rice with your spatula.

Add in the turmeric powder and mix the rice well to coat evenly.

Add in the tofu “spam” and mix well. Leave to cook for 2 to 3 more minutes. Taste the rice and feel free to season with more salt as needed. You can also add some soy sauce but this will change the colour of the rice—which was why I opted to use salt and white pepper to retain the golden yellow colour of the rice.

Turn off the heat and top with some chopped scallions if you’d like. Enjoy your fried rice while it’s hot!

Spam Fried Rice is much loved by Asians around the world, but we got the inspiration for this recipe on a recent trip to Hawaii.

Spam ((225 grams, diced))

onion ((diced, about 1 cup))

carrots ((diced, about 1 cup))

Shaoxing wine

soy sauce ((to taste))

fish sauce

peas

First prepare your rice. You can make this the night before and leave it in the fridge, or you can make it 20-30 minutes before you want to eat.

When your rice is at the ready, heat the oil in a wok set over medium-high heat. Add the ginger and fry gently in the oil for about 1 minute. Next, add the spam. Cook the spam until it’s lightly crisped at the edges, stirring occasionally. Next, add the onions and carrots, and cook for a few minutes until tender.

Turn the heat up to high, and add the cooked rice, breaking up any clumps with your spatula. Spread out evenly into a single layer across the wok to warm up the rice (if using leftovers) and gently crisp it.

Next, add the Shaoxing wine, the soy sauce, and fish sauce. Stir to combine.

Spread the rice out again into a single layer. Drizzle the beaten eggs across the rice, and stir-fry quickly with your spatula. Let sit for about 15 seconds, then stir-fry quickly to cook the egg completely and distribute it throughout the rice.

Add the peas and scallions and stir-fry until the peas are warmed through. Serve your Spam Fried Rice immediately with hot sauce of choice!

So in case. you find this not flavorful enough i would suggest trying it using Spicy spam....i always used spicy spam and then once i couldnt find it in the store and used the regular kind...and the difference is astounding.

Had to smile when I saw this recipe. Grew up eating fried rice pretty regularly, great way to use up leftovers.  We make fried rice with spam probably couple times a month.  Cubed first and made crispy before cooking up the rest of the ingredients.  My dad’s “secret sauce” was oyster sauce, not much soy sauce.  Other times ketchup (not my favorite).  I love adding fish sauce but gotta be sneaky, hubs not a fan.  I’ll have to try the Shaoxing next time since I always have it on hand.  Thanks for the recipe!

As a long time fan of Hawaiian local foods, I saved this recipe and finally made it - loved it!  Two things I would change next time: I'd cook the eggs separately and add towards the end (as you suggested to another reader who had the same mushiness problem).  And I'd use Original Spam, not low-sodium, which I felt didn't have enough of the salt blast that would complement the neutral rice.
