These soft and juicy stewed pears spiced with ginger and cinnamon are such a delicious breakfast!

Stewed Pears with Ginger and Cinnamon

pears

water

cm (.8") fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)

cinnamon

⅓ tsp mixed spice

Roughly chop the pears.

Add them to a small to medium saucepan with the water, sliced ginger, ground cinnamon and mixed spice.

Bring to a boil, turn the heat down and simmer for 30 minutes, until the pears are soft

(If you are using very unripe and hard pears, they make take longer and will need a splash more water.)

Leave to cool in the pan – the pears will absorb some of the liquid.

Serve warm or cold.

These stewed pears have just four ingredients and are quick and easy to make.  They are refined sugar free and make a delicious snack, dessert or even breakfast!

Stewed pears

(60 milliliterss) water

vanilla essence

Peal and core the pears and slice into quarters.  You can leave the skin on if you prefer, it will soften as it cooks.

Put the water into a small bowl and add the vanilla essence. Mix well.

Put the pears into a small pot on the stove.  Pour over the water and vanilla.  Sprinkle over the cinnamon.

Put the lid on the pot and cook until soft.  For already soft ripe pears this will take about five minutes.  For hard, crunchy, under ripe pears will take about ten to fifteen minutes.

Remove from post, serve and enjoy!
