Mini Tiramisu Trifles with a layer of mascarpone cheese, ladyfingers and espresso! A delicious, easy &amp; fun way to enjoy tiramisu &amp; trifle at the same time!

Mini Tiramisu Trifles

oz (565 grams) mascarpone cheese

tbsp (39 grams) sugar

(240 milliliters) heavy whipping cream, cold

(58 grams) powdered sugar

tsp vanilla extract

(180 milliliters) hot water

tbsp (45 milliliters) instant espresso powder

lady fingers*

(120 milliliters) heavy whipping cream

(29 grams) powdered sugar

tbsp (30 milliliters) kahlua

Mix mascarpone cheese and sugar together until combined. Do not over mix or the mascarpone cheese can thin out. Set aside.

2. In another bowl, add the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract and whip until stiff peaks form.

3. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone cheese mixture. Set aside.

4. In another bowl, combine the hot water, espresso powder and sugar.

5. To layer the trifles, dip the ladyfingers into the espresso mixture one at a time and place into the bottom of the trifle cup. Use two to three ladyfingers and break into pieces as needed so they fit in the cup and create a full layer.

6. Pipe or spoon a layer of mascarpone filling on top of the ladyfingers.

7. Repeat another layer of ladyfingers and mascarpone filling.

8. After completing the trifles, make the whipped cream.

9. Add the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and kahlua to a large mixer bowl and whip until stiff peaks form.

10. Pipe a swirl of whipped cream on top of each trifle, then sprinkle with cocoa powder, if desired.

11. Refrigerate trifles until ready to serve. Trifles are best for 2-3 days.


* I used the softer more cake-like ladyfingers in these trifles, as opposed to the more traditional hard ladyfingers.

Tiramisu Trifles

Easy Chocolate Tiramisu Trifle

Cups Heavy Cream (- VERY COLD!)

TBS Cocoa Powder (- DIVIDED + more for dusting top)

TBS Confectioner’s Sugar (- DIVIDED)

Mascarpone (- slightly softened)

TBS Baileys (- DIVIDED (can substitute Kahlua, Irish Cream,

tsp Pure Vanilla Extract

Cup Cool Whip (- thawed if frozen)

¼ Cup Strong Brewed Coffee (- at room temperature)

TBS Granulated Sugar

Ladyfinger Cookie or Savoiardi ((about 24 cookies))

Dark Chocolate (- shaved

Optional Garnishes: Cool Whip Frosting

Make Chocolate Whipped Cream

Make the chocolate whipped cream: In a metal mixing bowl (SEE NOTES), add the heavy cream, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and ¼ cup confectioner’s sugar.  Beat with a electric mixer for 4 minutes, or until medium-stiff peaks form.  Set aside in the refrigerator.

Make Mascarpone Mixture

Make the mascarpone layer: In a large bowl, gently fold the mascarpone with melted chocolate, 3 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar, 1 tablespoon Baileys (or coffee if non-alcoholic), and vanilla extract until JUST combined (SEE NOTES). Next, use a spatula to gently fold the cool whip into the mascarpone. Set aside.

Make Coffee Soaking Liquid

Make the coffee soaking liquid for the ladyfingers: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the coffee, granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and ¼ cup Baileys. Set aside.

Dip And Soak Ladyfingers

Dip ladyfingers in coffee mixture: Working with a third of the ladyfingers at a time (about 7-8 depending on the size of your bowl), dip the ladyfinger cookies into the coffee mixture, soaking both sides (SEE NOTES).

Layer Tiramisu Into A Trifle Bowl

Layer chocolate tiramisu into trifle bowl: First layer the soaked lady fingers onto the bottom of a 3 quart trifle bowl or glass bowl, arranging the cookies in a single layer and breaking the lady fingers in half if necessary to fit them into the bowl.  Next, dollop a third of the mascarpone cream mixture onto the ladyfingers and use an offset spatula to spread and smooth out the mascarpone mixture. Then, dollop a third of the chocolate whipped cream over the mascarpone mixture and use your spatula to spread out and smooth the whipped cream.  Repeat all the layers two more times - starting with dipping the lady fingers into coffee and ending with the whipped cream.

Chill Chocolate Tiramisu Trifle

Chill chocolate tiramisu trifle: Cover the tiramisu trifle with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. Let the tiramisu sit and set up in the fridge for at least 2 hours or up to overnight. (Why? The ladyfinger cookies need time to soften. If you like a spongy tiramisu, I recommend letting the trifle sit overnight in the fridge.)

Garnish And Serve Tiramisu With Chocolate

Garnish and serve: Dust the top of your tiramisu trifle dessert with cocoa powder, dollop with cool whip frosting, and then sprinkle with chocolate shavings, if using. Serve and enjoy!
