Everyone loves a party sausage roll and there is no way to please a crowd more than to serve up homemade ones. Here's a recipe that will impress.

coriander seeds, crushed

tsp fennel seeds, crushed

Recipe video above. We can do better than ketchup! This is essentially a tomato chutney but far less sweet and doesn&#039;t include ginger, chilli or other spices you often find in chutney (which I didn&#039;t want for a burger sauce). Use for your burger of choice and anything you&#039;d ordinarily dollop/smear chutney on - see in post for extensive suggestion.Makes 1 1/2 cups, enough to generously slather onto 5 to 6 burgers (But I&#039;m quite greedy).

Quick tomato chutney sauce for burgers

800 g / 28 oz canned tomato (, crushed

Worcestershire sauce

tbsp apple cider vinegar

brown sugar

garlic powder

onion powder

tsp smoked paprika

mustard powder

tsp celery salt

tsp cooking/kosher salt

tsp black pepper

Mix all the ingredients in a medium saucepan.

Simmer Bring to a simmer over medium heat then lower heat to medium low so it&#39;s simmering gently.

Cook for 25 minutes, stirring regularly, until it reduces down and is thick enough so you can draw a path across the base of the saucepan (see video or step photos).

Cool &amp; slather: Transfer into a bowl. For use on burgers, cool then slather. Browse my Burger collection for options! If using to dollop or dip for any number of the other suggested uses in the post, use warm or cooled!

An old fashioned (and unbeatable) tomato relish recipe.

Tomato Relish

tomatoes

brown onions

salt

sugar

white vinegar

curry powder

cayenne pepper

plain flour ((all purpose flour))

Peel tomatoes - Soak in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and cool a little. Skins should now be split and easily peel off. If not split, apply a little pressure or scratch at skin a little and it should peel off easily. If using cherry tomatoes, they should just pop out of their skin by applying a little pressure at the base of the tomato (see video).

Chop tomatoes and onion and place in a tray. Sprinkle with the salt and cover with a clean tea towel. Leave out (at room temperature) overnight.

The next day, drain off liquid and place tomatoes and onion in a saucepan along with the sugar and vinegar.

Heat over medium heat, stirring, to dissolve the sugar. Bring to the boil and boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Skim off any foam that forms on the top with a spoon.

Combine remaining ingredients in a small bowl to make a paste. Add to saucepan and stir well to combine.

Continue to simmer for another 20 minutes (approx), stirring from time to time to break up the tomatoes and make sure the mixture doesn&#039;t stick to the bottom of the saucepan and burn. The mixture should thicken to reach a jam-like consistency.

Pour into sterilised jars and allow to cool. Store in the fridge for up to 6 months.
