<em>Salted caramel turtle brownies are deliciously rich with homemade salted caramel and pecans!</em>

Salted Caramel Turtle Brownies

(12 Tbsp; 175 grams) unsalted butter

(113 grams) semi-sweet chocolate bar, coarsely chopped*

(400 grams) granulated sugar

eggs,

vanilla extract

(85 grams) unsweetened natural or dutch-process cocoa powder*

(125 grams) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled)

salt

(120 grams) chopped pecans

cup (180 grams) semi-sweet chocolate chips

(full recipe) homemade salted caramel

Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9&#215;13 inch pan pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the finished brownies/caramel out of the pan as a whole. This makes cutting easier. I recommend parchment paper because the caramel won&#8217;t really stick to it.

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and 2 ounces of chopped chocolate. Melt in 30 second increments, whisking after each, until completely smooth. Whisk in the sugar until completely combined, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla. The batter will be light brown and a little dull looking.

Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, remaining 2 ounces of chopped chocolate, pecans, and chocolate chips. Fold it all together with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. Batter will be very thick. Spread evenly into prepared pan.

Bake for 30 minutes, then test the brownies with a toothpick. Insert it into the center of the pan. If it comes out with wet batter, the brownies are not done. If there are only a few moist crumbs, the brownies are done. Keep checking every 2 minutes until you have moist crumbs. My brownies take 31-32 minutes.

Remove from the oven and pour slightly cooled salted caramel on top of hot brownies. Spread it evenly on top. If desired, and if you like very salty/sweet, sprinkle top with coarse salt. Place the pan on a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares. I like to stick the pan in the refrigerator to speed things up.

Cover and store leftover brownies at room temperature for up to 1 week.

these were SO. GOOD. the salted caramel sauce is delicious and the chunks of pecan in the brownies really make them. the only thing is the caramel sauce can get a little hard, but if you microwave the brownie for about 15 seconds before you eat it, and ESPECIALLY if you eat it with a little vanilla bean ice cream... earth-shattering

I made these yesterday &amp; they are amazing!!  Chocolate &amp; caramel is a match made in heaven.  The brownies are chocolatey, nutty, sticky perfection.  And served over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream even better!!  Everyone loved them &amp; I can't wait to make them again.  Thanks for another keeper Sally!

These brownies were so good! My 12 year old daughter made these. I was surprised at how well she did with making the caramel. I just helped her follow the directions exactly and it turned out great.

THE BEST TURTLE BROWNIES

(15 chocolate cake mix

pecans ((divided use))

(5 oz) can evaporated milk ((divided use))

(11 oz) bag caramel candy or caramel bits

semi-sweet chocolate chips ((divided use))

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray an 8x8 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Or line the pan with parchment paper and spray the paper. This will make it easier to remove and cut into bars later.

In a bowl, mix together the cake mix, softened butter, 3/4 cups of the chopped pecans (we&#039;ll use the rest for the topping later) and 3 ounces of evaporated milk.

Press half of the brownie batter into the bottom of the prepared pan. It might help to moisten your hands a bit to press it down since the batter will be a sticky.

Bake this bottom half for 10 minutes at 350f degrees.

In a small saucepan, over low to medium heat, melt the caramels and the rest of the evaporated milk. Whisk often to prevent burning. Once melted, remove from the stove and set aside.

When the bottom is done baking, immediately sprinkle half of the chocolate chips on the bottom layer and then spread 3/4 of the caramel sauce on to (the rest will be used as a topping.)

Crumble the remaining half of the brownie batter evenly over the caramel layer. Note: t’s okay if some caramel is showing since the batter will spread out as it bakes.

Sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans on top. Bake for another 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean .

Let the brownies cool completely.

When it’s time to cut, warm up the remaining caramel sauce and drizzle it all over the top of the finished brownies.

Finally, melt the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips and drizzle that over the brownies as well.

Slice and serve!

Turtle brownies are rich and fudgy brownies topped with a layer of salted caramel sauce, chopped pecans and sweet chocolate chips. These caramel brownies are the ultimate indulgence and taste just like the turtle candy.

Turtle Brownies Recipe

unsalted butter

(170 g) semi sweet chocolate chips ((or mix of milk and dark chocolate chips))

(400 g) granulated sugar

eggs

(60 g) Dutch processed cocoa powder

(10 ml) vanilla extract

baking powder

(120 g) all purpose flour

(93 g) chopped pecans, divided (for topping)

caramel sauce (for topping)

(85 g) chocolate chips (for topping)

Prep

Preheat the oven to 350 F (177 C). Line an 9 x 13 metal pan with a layer of parchment paper along the long sides and bottom of the pan.

Melt

In a microwave safe mixing bowl add the butter and chocolate chips. Heat in 30 second increments, stirring after each until the butter and chocolate are fully melted and mixed together. Gently stir in the granulated sugar just to barely combine and return the mixing bowl to the microwave. Heat for 30 more seconds. Now stir the sugar fully into the melted butter and chocolate. 

Stir

Stir in the eggs, vanilla extract and cocoa powder and salt until smooth and glossy. This takes many whisks around the bowl.  Lift the flexible spatula or spoon and allow the batter to drizzle down. If the batter falls like a ribbon, it’s perfect. Whisk in the baking powder and flour until well combined. Fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts if using in the brownies.

Bake

Evenly scoop the pecan brownie batter into the prepared pan. Use a flexible spatula to smooth the top of the brownies as needed. Bake for about 25 - 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs or almost clean.  

Cool and Top

Cool the brownies in the pan for 1 hour. For the fudgiest brownies, transfer the cooled brownies to the fridge to chill for 1 - 2 hours. Lift the brownies from the pan using the parchment paper onto a cutting board or serving board.Top with salted caramel sauce, more chopped pecans and chocolate chips, slice and enjoy.
