This TVP Taco Meat recipe has the texture of ground beef and is easy to make! Use it to make street tacos, a satisfying vegan taco bowl, or top your favorite salad. Delicious, healthy, cheap, and plant-based!

Easy TVP Taco Meat (Vegan, 10 Minutes)

yellow onion, diced

TVP (texture vegetable protein)

yeast

chili powder

smoked paprika

cumin

garlic powder

vegetable broth

soy sauce

tomato paste

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and cook the onion for 1-2 minutes. Add 1-2 Tbsp. of water or veggie broth to prevent sticking.

Stir in the TVP, nutritional yeast, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and garlic powder. Cook for 30-45 seconds until the spices become fragrant. 

Add the vegetable broth, soy sauce, and tomato paste. Stir until everything is well combined.

Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 3-5 minutes. All of the liquid should be absorbed, and the mixture should resemble ground beef.

Taste and season as desired or add a squeeze of lime juice.

A quick and easy way to make vegan taco meat from TVP or any other plant-based protein.

taco shells

water ((very hot))

oil oil

cayenne pepper flakes

oil (for frying the taco meat.)

vegan cheese ((optional))

sour cream ((optional))

lettuce ((optional))

tomatoes ((optional))

guacamole (or avocado (optional))

Pour 1/2 cup boiling water, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp taco seasoning, and 2 tbsp oil into a bowl and stir.

Add 1 cup of TVP and give it another stir.

Let the TVP sit for 5 minutes and absorb the broth.

Put 1 tbsp oil in the bottom of a skillet and pour in the taco meat mixture.  (You can also saute an onion or garlic in oil for about 5 minutes before adding the TVP meat if you desire).

Fry over medium heat for about 5 minutes until heated and slightly browned.

Fill the taco shells with the taco meat and choice of toppings (or set up a taco bar and let everyone build their own).

Super quick and easy! This was my second time making this and I added some onion and garlic and it was good. Topped it with some street corn from trader Joe’s and some quac… If you like big tacos I would double the recipe!

I love this! I usually shy away from taco seasoning because it is so strong and overwhelming, but 1 tbl. is perfect for this. I did sauté onions and garlic because I love both. So easy to make and so good. This will definitely be my go-to taco meat recipe. Thanks!

This was so good! To give it a Smokey flavor I would suggest 1 tsp of liquid smoke :)

I can't believe how easy this was to make!  I have been buying the frozen premade kind, but this was just as good for a fraction of the price.  I like that I can just keep TVP in the pantry and rehydrate it when I need it.  It will be great for camping this summer too!  Thanks for the recipe!

An easy way to make vegan taco meat from TVP.

This TVP Taco Meat recipe is a delicious meat-free alternative for taco nights, ready in 15 minutes. Bonus, textured soy proteins are not very expensive, so it&#039;s a great low-cost, high-protein vegan meal.

TVP Taco Meat

Olive Oil

Yellow Onion (diced)

Garlic Cloves (crushed)

Vegetable Broth (low-sodium)

Water

Cumin

Garlic Powder

Paprika

Oregano

Chili Powder

Tamari Sauce

Tomato Paste

Salt

Cauliflower Rice (or broccoli rice, fresh or frozen)

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil and stir-fry the onion and garlic until fragrant - about 1 minute.

Stir in TVP, cauliflower rice if used, and spices: cumin, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, and salt chili powder. Cook, stir for 1 minute until spices are fragrant.

Stir in tomato paste, vegetable broth, water, and tamari sauce.

Reduce heat, and simmer for 3 minutes, covered, stirring once in a while or until TVP absorbs the broth.

Remove the lid and keep cooking for 3-4 minutes until the mixture is dryer and TVP fluffier.

Taste and add more salt if desired.

Serve hot in my vegan gluten-free flatbread recipe.

I just made these TVP tacos and it is definitely a keeper. My husband didn't know he ate TVP. Very tasty and easy to make.
