Watergate Hotel Mom's Apple Crisp Recipe

Apples (Granny Smith are a good choice)

Brown Sugar

Lemon Juice

Cinnamon

Flour

Sugar

Baking Powder

Salt

Cinnamon (divided)

Butter (melted, divided)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Peel the apples, if you like. They are fine peeled or unpeeled.

Core the apples. Chop into small cubes.  Apple chunks should be no smaller than 1 inch (or they will get too mushy when cooking).

Place apples into a large bowl.

Add brown sugar, lemon juice and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Toss until apples are well-coated.

Pour apple mixture into an oven-safe 8 1/2 x 12-inch casserole dish.

In a small bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.

Add egg and about 1/2 of the butter.

Spread mixture evenly over top of apples.

Sprinkle remainder of the butter on top of the crisp.

Cover dish with foil.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, or a bit more until deep golden brown and bubbling.

Canola Oil

Molassas

Milk

Oatmeal

Nuts (Walnuts are preferred)

Raisins

Sift the first four ingredients together.

Gradually add the remainder of the ingredients while stirring.

Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for approximately 12 minutes or when the cookies are not soft to the touch.
