Using the extra butter, grease a 10-inch tube pan. Using the extra flour, dust the buttered pan, lightly tapping out the excess.

In a bowl, using an electric hand mixer, add the sugar and 1/2 pound of the butter, beating to cream the mixture thoroughly.
