Step 1

Start by lining your 8x8 baking pan with a piece of parchment paper or wax paper. It is a good idea to then spray the bottom of the pan, bowl, rubber spatula, and knife with nonstick cooking spray. Set the baking dish to the side.

Step 2

Melt butter and 5 cups of marshmallows in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.

Step 3

As soon as it is melted, remove it from the heat.

Step 4

Add a few drops of gel green food coloring to the gooey marshmallow mixture till you get the color you desire.

Step 5

In a large bowl, pour the rice cereal in then fold in the green marshmallow mixture.

Step 6

Stir until it is completely combined.

Step 7

*Tip - If you love the really soft and gooey rice Krispie treats, add the last little bit of mini marshmallows left in the bag. This makes the absolutely best rice crispy treats EVER!!!

Step 8

Grab a small ball of rice crispy mixture and roll it into a ball, then stretch out one side to make a cone tree shape. Place on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Step 9

Let the trees cool down for 1 hour at room temperature, then you can put them into the fridge for 1 hour. From there you can decorate with mini colorful candies, and M&M's for the lights.
