Step 1

Combine allspice, salt, pepper and cloves in a small bowl.

Step 2

Rub spice mixture all over the roast.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear roast on all sides.

Step 4

While roast is browning, combine brandy, broth and coffee.

Step 5

Reserve 1/2 cup of the broth mixture and set aside.

Step 6

Add garlic and bay leaves to the remaining broth mixture.

Step 7

Remove roast from skillet and place in the slow cooker.

Step 8

Remove excess oil from skillet and return to stove.

Step 9

Add the broth/garlic mixture to the skillet.

Step 10

Heat to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 11

Pour heated mixture over the roast in the slow cooker.

Step 12

To the reserved 1/2 cup broth mixture, add dark brown sugar and lime juice and stir to combine. Pour over roast in slow cooker.

Step 13

Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours.

Step 14

Remove roast and tent with foil for 10 minutes before slicing.

Step 15

Remove bay leaves and spoon sauce over beef.
