Step 1

Add the butter to a 8 or 9 inch pan. Place in a cold oven.

Turn on and preheat for 350 degrees.

Step 3

Remove the pan from the oven once the butter is melted.

Step 4

Prepare the batter by whisking the flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla and milk until smooth and combined, about 1 minute.

Step 5

Pour the batter directly over the top of the butter, without stirring.

Step 6

Spoon the pie filling directly on top of the batter, reframing from stirring.

Step 7

Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center has baked fully.

Step 8

Optionally, you can sprinkle sugar over the top of the cake during the last 15 minutes of baking.

Step 9

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
