Step 1
Take a big bowl and add the flour, salt, oil (or butter or lard), baking powder (optional) and water. Use your hands and knead it into an elastic dough

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 30 minutes

Take a tortilla press and put parchment paper on the bottom of the press then add a ball and add another piece of parchment paper
Step 5
Close the tortilla press and press down on the tortillas. Rotate the tortillas and press again
Step 6
Remove the top piece of parchment paper
Step 7
Heat a cast-iron skillet or comal to hot. Then put your tortilla in the pan and cook for 30 seconds to a minute
Step 8
Flip the tortilla and cook for another 30 seconds or 1 minute until you see dark patches appear
Step 9
Remove the tortilla from the pan and store in a tortilla warmer or wrap in a clean kitchen towel
Step 10
Repeat for the remaining tortillas
