Step 1
Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Before draining, reserve a cup of pasta water and set aside.
Step 2
Add butter to a large pan over medium heat. Once it's melted, add minced garlic and allow to cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Stir constantly so it doesn't burn.
Step 3
Add the cream cheese and half and half to the pan with the garlic. Break the cream cheese apart with a spoon or spatula, and stir continuously until it's melted and combined with the half and half. This may take several minutes.
Step 4
Once the cream cheese has melted and the sauce has thickened, add the cup of reserved pasta water. Stir until everything is combined, then let the mixture re-thicken for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
Add the parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to the sauce, and stir until melted and smooth. The sauce should be the consistency of Alfredo sauce. If it's too thin, continue to cook it until it reaches your desired consistency. If it's too thick, add a bit more half and half or water.
Step 6
Gradually add the angel hair to the sauce, stirring to combine. Garnish with chopped fresh basil and extra parmesan cheese and serve immediately.
