If you like the taste of pecan pie, you'll love this easy alternative. Serve the squares with vanilla ice cream for an over-the-top dessert.

Pecan Squares

all-purpose flour

sugar

butter, softened

brown sugar

honey

butter

whipping cream

pecans

Sift together 2 cups flour and 2/3 cup powdered sugar. Cut in 3/4 cup softened butter using a pastry blender or fork just until mixture resembles coarse meal. Pat mixture on bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish.


Bake at 350&deg; for 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool.


Bring brown sugar, honey, 2/3 cup butter, and whipping cream to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in pecans, and pour hot filling into prepared crust.


Bake at 350&deg; for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Cool completely before cutting into 2-inch squares.


These are so easy and delicious. I would agree with a previous reviewer who stated that the crust should only extend about .5-1 inch up the sides of the pan. The filling is only about 0.5 inch thick, so the 1.5 inch looked silly. I much prefer this crust to pie crust, and don't miss the gooey inside of pecan pie at all.

I have tried other "pecan bar" recipes, and this is by far the best.  I like to make them is a smaller sized baking dish - tastes like a hunk of pecan pie! YUM!

They did not come out.  I don't know what I did wrong. They were hard like peanut brittle. Threw them out

This is the most decadent pecan dessert I have ever had. The crust is outstanding. This is much better than pecan pie. Will definitely add this to our favorites!

This AWESOME!!!! A must try. Followed recipe and it turned out so good I couldn't believe it. I didn't have whipping cream so I made my own by using 3/4 cup milk with 1/3 melted butter. Whisk together and used the 3 Tablespoon the recipe called for. So so soooo good. Hope you will give it a try. Oh and by the way I think the crust was so good it could be eaten as a shortbread cookie all by itself.

These were an excellent addition to our holiday cookie trays this year!  I especially liked the fact that they do not have Karo Syrup in them as some people are very sensitive about that.  I will definitely be making them again.

These bars are so good and easy to make!  It would have been easier if the store wasn't out of chopped pecans, and I didn't have to chop 3 1/2 cups of them. I've been in the mood for pecan pie lately.  I'm a big fan but sometimes the gooey middle gets to be too much for me.  These bars are the perfect substitute.  They remind me of a pecan pie baklava hybrid.  These will definitely be made again.

Delicious, easy and a big hit every time.  They do have a tendency to stick so grease the pan well with spray.  Don't add too many pecans thinking more is better because the pecans won't stay together in the bar.  Too many pecans will cause the bars to fall apart.  I did not have enough honey the last time a made them so I had to use 1/4 cup of honey and a 1/4 cup of Karo syrup..it turned out just fine.  I have made these several times and encourage you to try them.

Easy, and very tasty. Family &amp; friends enjoyed them very much with the majority of them asking for the recipe. A true sign of a good recipe. 

I notice a reviewer claiming the squares are great made with splenda or splenda brown sugar, or SF honey &amp; SF maple syrup. The reviewer might want to be aware, especially if there is a diabetic in the family, that there is no such thing as SF honey or SF maple syrup, unless the reviewer is referring to SF imitation honey or maple "flavored" syrups.  Natural honey or natural Maple syrup are high carb sweeteners, albeit, natural high carb sweeteners. Caution should be taken when using either one in baking for diabetics.

These are so easy and delicious.  I make them sugar-free and with simple substitutions, they still turn out perfect....Splenda, SF honey, SFmaple syrup, Splenda brown sugar are all great subs...still my husband's favorite.

The squares were delicious, but I had an extremely difficult time with them sticking to the pan, even though it was lightly greased. Wondering if it would work to use parchment paper or if glass pan would be better? Would make again but would not make crust 1 inch +.

Made these for a dinner party this weekend--none left!  Delicious!  Excellent crust--but don't know why it says to go up 1 1/2" with it.  Will just go up a 1/2" next time.  Will definitely make again.

I really wanted to make this recipe but I was low on pecans and out of honey.  So I made it with walnuts and maple syrup...oh my gosh! They were fabulous.  Can't wait to try them with the pecans and honey:-)

Took these to a tailgate party yesterday and got rave reviews. They are not as rich as a pecan pie- the honey makes the difference. You know it's good when your best "cooking" friends ask for the recipe. Followed the instructions exactly- love the idea of putting in some bourbon and next time may toast the nuts a bit, but they are great as is. Really easy, really good!!

Om my! Is this heaven on earth or what?? I was really craving pecan tart so I decided to make these instead. WOW! That's all I have to say! As for some people's worries on the time, I followed the 350F and baked as per directions and it was simply perfect timing. 20 mins for the crust, and a bit over 25 mins for the pecans. I also read that one person wanted more flavor and sugar but are you kidding me?? These are very sweet! No need for extra anything! Also, someone said they added bourbon. I will try that next time! WOW!!! So good!!

Wow, these are sooooo good!  If you like pecan pie you will love these.  Very easy to make too.

Pralines on a shortbread crust. They're quite good! I took them out of the oven after twenty minutes and could have taken them out a few minutes earlier. Be sure to watch closely towards the end. I added a tablespoon or two of Bourbon. Three tablespoons would have come through better (I love the Bourbon Pecan Tart on this site). Quite easy, good flavor. Cutting them into triangles is a great tip. They're rich, and the triangle point is easier to bite, especially at a cocktail party when you want to eat daintily.

These were AMAZING. Everyone absolutely LOVED them, including people who aren't huge pecan fans! I don't ever time my baking- I just peek into the oven to see if things look done- so I didn't have any problems with baking times. I will DEFINITELY be making these again! So, so delicious.

I made this dessert for Thanksgiving this year and my family loved them. I followed the recipe exactly, the directions were easy to follow, and everything came out great. After cutting them into squares, I cut them in half again on the diagonal, as it is a sweet dessert. The triangles seem to be a perfect size to satisfy the sweet tooth but not go on a sugar overload. If you are a pecan lover, try this recipe. Not only a wonderful holiday dessert, but good for packing in lunches, cookie exchanges, and office parties.

I would cut the baking time down on the crust by 5 minutes, and I would cut the baking time down on the filled crust by 7-10 minutes.  I made as directed by the recipe and felt it was very over cooked.  The cookies were very tough and crumbly instead of soft and chewy.

I made this last year during the holidays. My family loved them. An alternative to pecan pie and much simpler to prepare. The honey gives it a great flavor.

these bars were so awesome.  I made them for thanksgiving last year and my loved them that i made them for christmas.  my father-in-law just called tonight to make sure i was making them again this year for thanksgiving.  I felt that 3.5 cups of pecans was a little too much so i took it down a tad but it was fantastic!

This is the same recipe as Caramel-Pecan Tart which is rated 5 Stars as well.  You can bake it as bars or eat as a pie--both of which are outstanding.  If having trouble with the crust crumbling, press it into the pan really well.  Also, if using a convection oven, shorten the time by 1/3-1/2.

These are excellent.  Very tasty AND ... Many pecan bars are runny and cannot stand alone.  These are firm and work well on a cookie tray.   I highly recommend them.

I know that while the "healthy factor" of this recipe needs  to be completely disregarded, it is completely outweighed by the rich flavor - the honey, pecans and butter flavors can all be savored simultaneously. These bars were the dessert hit of my office Christmas party.  This receipe will definitely be brought out again every December.

These were really good, especially if you like pecan pie. It was very similar to that, but in bar form.

These were just okay. The crust was extremely crumbly, so they had to be eaten over a plate, and at least half the crust ended up falling off. The crust for Luscious Lemon Bars (Southern Living, July 2001) is similar but far better, IMHO. The Pecan Squares were definitely nutty, but not sweet enough for me (okay, I'm a sugar addict). Not really enough flavor; I found them pretty bland. My husband and teenage sons agreed. Not sorry I tried them; probably won't make them again.

These squares taste just like pecan pie without all of the gooey inside. Excellent for special occasions such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. So easy to make. It has become one of our favorites at holiday time.

Very very good!  I just made these this morning and after letting them cool had a taste.  DELICIOUS!  Relatively easy recipe to follow and the finished product was easy to cut and serve.  Very pretty presentation.  I will also add this to my Holiday cookie/treat give aways.  I could make these for everyday treats too.  Very yummy.

What a HIT! I made this for my husband's office party and everyone LOVED it! The crust is like a crunchy shortbread with a dense better-than-pecan-pie filling. I think this recipe is one I will use for years to come.

Really good, especially for people who have a sensitivity to corn syrup, which is usually in traditional pecan pie recipes. The substitution of honey and whipping cream is a good idea.
