Step 1
In a pan over medium heat, in a bit of oil, grill your onions (for about 10 - 15 minutes). We're gonna prepare the Soy Curls while the onions cook, but stir them every now and then and make sure they don't burn.
Step 2
While onions are grilling, rehydrate the soy curls by covering them in some water for about 10 minutes.
Step 3
While soy curls are hydrating, prepare the marinade by adding the rest of the vegan soy curl ingredients to a bowl and whisking thouroughly. Keep an eye on your onions so they don't burn!
Step 4
Strain your soy curls. Using your bare hands, squeeze out the excess water. You want them to be as dry as possible. I typically do this in a colander that's got another bowl underneath it (or you could do it over the sink too).
Step 5
Add your soy curls to the onions and grill for a few minutes.
Step 6
Add in the marinade and reduce down to your desired consistency, should take about 10 minutes or so. Add in another tsp of molasses (for color and flavor) and season the soy curl steak to taste!
Step 7
To make the Cheez Whiz, add the water and sodium citrate to a pan over medium heat. Once dissolved, add in your vegan cheese (and tapioca starch if using). Whisk until fully melted.
Step 8
Dress your roll with any condiments that you want (if any) then pile high with the soy curl steak, give it a liberal dousing of the Cheez Whiz and dig in!
Step 9
ENJOY!
