These seared ahi tuna steaks take only 6 minutes to make- they&#x27;re healthy, crispy and seared on the outside, and medium-rare on the inside, and bursting with umami flavor!

Six-Minute Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks

ahi tuna (yellowfin tuna) steaks ((about 4 oz. each, at least 1.5" thick))

soy sauce

sesame oil (see notes)

honey (see notes)

salt

black pepper (to taste)

cayenne pepper ((optional))

canola oil (or olive oil)

green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and lime

Pat the ahi tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. Place on a plate or inside a plastic bag.

Mix the soy sauce (2 tablespoons), toasted sesame oil (1 tablespoon), honey (1 tablespoon) kosher salt (1/2 teaspoon- OMIT if marinating for more than a couple hours, see notes), pepper (1/4 teaspoon), and cayenne pepper (1/4 teaspoon) until honey is fully dissolved. Pour over the ahi tuna steaks and turn over to coat completely. Optional: allow to marinate for at least 10 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator. Also optional: Reserve a spoonful or two of the marinade before coating the fish for drizzling on top after you&#039;ve cooked it.

Heat a medium skillet (preferably non-stick or a well-seasoned cast iron skillet) on medium-high to high until very hot ( or medium medium-high for nonstick). I recommend giving cast iron 3-5 minutes to get hot and nonstick about 1 minute, depending on how thick it is.

Add the canola oil (1 tablespoon) to the hot pan. Sear the tuna for 2 minutes on each side for medium rare (1.5 minutes on each side for rare; 3 on each side for medium). (Note: different burners get hotter depending on your stove. Use your best judgement whether you use medium, medium-high, or high heat, as the marinade may burn if too high heat is used)

Remove to a cutting board and allow to rest for at least 3 minutes. Slice into 1/2 inch slices and serve garnished with green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice, if desired.

Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki - when cooking ahi tuna, simple is best. A quick sear and delicious ginger, lemon, and soy dressing add pop to this dish, perfect as an appetizer or light lunch.

Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki

lb (8 oz) sushi grade ahi tuna

sesame seeds

olive oil

sesame oil

garlic (peeled and thinly sliced, divided)

ginger

juice of 1/2 a lemon

cilantro

fresno chili (or substitute jalapeno, thinly sliced)

scallion (thinly sliced)

kosher salt

black pepper

Roll the ahi tuna in the sesame seeds, pressing lightly so that the fish is evenly coated with sesame seeds on all sides.

Heat the olive oil and sesame oil in a pan over high heat. Add 3/4 of the thinly sliced garlic to the pan and as the pieces turn golden brown, retrieve the garlic with a slotted spoon and set aside. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Add the tuna to the pan and sear the fish for about 15-20 seconds per side, then set aside on a plate.

Make the dressing by whisking together the ginger, soy sauce, lemon juice and remaining sliced garlic. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Thinly slice the tuna, and divide between the plates. Drizzle the dressing over the tuna, then garnish with cilantro, scallion, chili, and an additional drizzle of olive oil.

Enjoy immediately.

Incredibly good and very easy to make!  As always, having the highest quality tuna is key, but the ingredients and flavors in this dish are spectacular.
