To marinate the shawarma meat: you'll need 2 tablespoons olive oil + 1 tablespoon white vinegar + 1/2 teaspoon salt. Allow chicken to marinate for 10-20 minutes and 1 hour to 24 hours for beef. This is our easiest-ever Christmas Cake recipe ever. You don't need to soak the fruit overnight, in fact the prep for this festive cake takes just 15 minutes.

175 g (6 ounces) unsalted butter,

Preheat the oven to 150°C (130°C fan) mark 2. Grease, then line the base and sides of a 20.5cm (8in) deep round cake tin with baking parchment.

Put all the dried fruit and stem ginger into a very large pan with the lemon zest and almond liqueur. Heat the pan until the liqueur at the bottom begins to boil, then cook on a medium heat for 5min, stirring frequently until the fruit absorbs the liquid. Add butter and sugar and heat gently to melt, stirring occasionally to help dissolve the sugar.

Take the pan off the heat and leave to cool for 5min. Stir in the almonds, flour, spices and beaten eggs and mix well. Immediately pour the mixture into the prepared tin and level the surface (there's no need to make a dip in the mixture).

Bake the cake for 1hr 45min-2hr or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Cover the cake with foil if it is browning too quickly.&nbsp;

Allow sauce to thicken for 6-10 minutes or until it reaches desired consistency. Taste and adjust with additional mustard as desired. Add meatballs in when there are 4 minutes remaining. Keep in mind the sauce will thicken as it sits, so if you aren't serving right away, consider leaving it a little thinner. Serve on top of buttered egg noodles or mashed potatoes. Top with fresh parsley if desired!

In a small bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, allspice, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until well combined. Add egg and vanilla and mix until light and smooth.

Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet and mix until just combined.

Chill dough in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Roll chilled dough into two logs about 3 inches in diameter and wrap them tightly with plastic wrap.

Freeze dough logs for 1-2 hours or until frozen through.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Remove dough from freezer and slice into rounds about ½ inch thick, then arrange on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake cookies for 9-11 minutes. Cookes will continue to firm up as they cool!

Allow cookies to cool, then store in an airtight container.
