A Doc-Approved Spaghetti Dish That Could Increase Longevity? We're In!

Italian bread

boneless

skinless sardine filets packed in olive oil

garlic

EVOO

sweet onion

salt-packed capers

Italian parsley

lemon

red pepper flakes

whole wheat spaghetti

Salt and black pepper

Longevity Pasta with Breadcrumbs, Capers, Sardines + Lemon | Dr. Will Li

Meanwhile, place the bread in a food processor (or blender) and pulse until uniform coarse breadcrumbs result, about 1 minute

Pour the olive oil from the tin of sardines into a large pan and heat over medium heat

Add the breadcrumbs and stir continuously until golden brown and crunchy, about 4 minutes

Remove from the heat to prevent burning, transfer the toasted breadcrumbs to a plate and set aside

Heat the EVOO in the same pan over medium-high heat, add the onions and sauté until just caramelized, about 5 minutes

Add the sardines, breaking them into pieces with a fork, and mix evenly with the onions

Stir in the capers, parsley, lemon zest and red pepper flakes

Mix the sauce gently and turn off the heat

Cook the spaghetti in the boiling water until just al dente, about 7 minutes

Drain and reserve ½ cup of the pasta water

Add the spaghetti to the sauce, season to taste with salt and pepper and mix until evenly combined

Turn the heat to medium, add the pasta water and cook, stirring, until the liquid is absorbed, about 1 minute

Sprinkle the pasta with the toasted breadcrumbs, reserving some for serving, then mix again

Serve immediately, topping each portion with another pinch of breadcrumbs

Garnish with a lemon wedge and sprig of parsley

How to Make Longevity Spaghetti | Dr. Will Li

This recipe uses essentially 1¼ cups of different fresh green herbs. I have made it with all different proportions and to be honest, my fav is almost all parsley, with about 2 tablespoons fresh basil to fill in the rest. You can use tarragon, sage, and rosemary, but I find that they are all just a little too unique in flavor to mix in here, and we all know how I feel about cilantro.

Italian Salsa Verde Recipe

capers

anchovy

garlic (peeled, green germ removed)

olive oil

parsley leaves

basil leaves (chopped)

chives

sea salt

lemon juice ((about half a large lemon))

Rinse capers in cold water, then drain.

Soak anchovies in cold water for 5 minutes, then pat dry and remove any large, obvious bones.

Using a mortar and pestle (or a food processor), smash the capers, anchovies and garlic with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil until smooth. Transfer to a large bowl.

Add all the herbs and start with about half the remaining olive oil to start, adding more olive oil until you get a chunky, not oily, texture. Season with sea salt.

If you are eating right away, stir in lemon juice. If you are advance prepping, wait until right before serving to stir in lemon juice.

Serve Salsa Verde alongside roast chicken. Or with other roasted meats. Or with bread as a dip. Or mixed into quinoa. Or just eat it plain. Whatever.

Fractionated coconut oil

Add all the essential oils to a 10mL glass roller bottle. 

Top off with your favorite carrier oil.

Shake well before each use. 

Apply under the eyes twice daily for best results.

Using a 10mL roller bottle, remove the rollerball top and add the recommend amounts of essential oils.

Hi Nisha!  What brand do you recommend for the Tartary Buckwheat Sprout Powder?

What would I substitute for Strawberries? I'm allergic to them.

Cant wait to try this. I find AMLA quite lemony rather than bitter and it is a staple in my greens porgies and complements kale quite well also. Kale is a strong green which for my taste requires 🍋 lemon, cinnamon or pineapple to override its strong flavor.

Hi Nisha, these are all things I add to my oatmeal, except the cocoa. I never thought to make up a larger batch of them all blended together.  Would there be any downside to grinding the barberries into a rough sort of powder?  Usually I cook them with the oatmeal to soften / hydrate them a bit, so I could always keep those separate.

I am surprisingly ok with the AMLA power, thought it would be really bitter but was fine with the strawberry powder and barberries (I did not add neither the protein nor the cocoa powder though). 

I have a question that I was hoping you can help with: you mentioned waiting for the oatmeal or chia pudding to come to room temp before adding the powder for max benefits. I like taking mine cold from the fridge so wondering if that is because heat damages the structures (in which case I am fine) or if the cold reduces absorption.

 Would you mind letting me know?
