Cast Iron Smoked Baked Beans

oz Loose Breakfast Sausage

BBQ Sauce

Light Kidney Beans (Drained)

Black Beans (Drained)

Cannelini Beans (Drained)

Butter Beans (Drained)

tbsp BBQ Rub

Worcestershire Sauce

Dijon Mustard

saute diced onions, bell peppers and jalapeno in a cast iron skillet until softened then brown off sausage until almost fully cooked.

add beans

drain and rinse the canned beans then add to the skillet. add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.

Smoke or bake the barbecue beans for 1 hour at 350 degrees F. Stir the beans at the 30 minute mark.

Smoky, spicy and sweet, these Vegetarian Baked Beans start with a base of slow roasted caramelized onion, carrot and garlic, then BBQ sauce and fire roasted tomatoes are added to make up this saucy, mouthwatering recipe. This recipe is vegan and vegetarian. Smoky Vegetarian BBQ Baked Beans

C (200 grams) Dry Beans

C (260 grams) Purple Onion (about

C (350 grams) Fire-Roasted Tomatoes (crushed, one can)

C (275 grams) Smoky Bourbon Homemade BBQ Sauce

If using canned beans, drain them and move on to #2. Otherwise, soak dry beans overnight, or at least 8 hours, making sure water covers the beans by 3&quot;. Drain and rinse the beans. In a medium saucepan, add beans and enough fresh water to cover beans by 3&quot;. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Turn heat to medium-low and simmer for about 30-60 minutes. Start checking the beans at around 30 minutes. The beans are done when they are tender. (How long it takes for the beans to cook depends on the age and type of the beans used). Drain and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350F (177C).

In a large roasting pan, add the onion, carrots, garlic, chili flakes, cumin, paprika, salt and coconut or olive oil. Stir. Roast for 20 minutes, stirring after 5 minutes to evenly distribute the coconut or olive oil.

To the onion mixture, add the cooked beans, fire-roasted tomatoes, and BBQ sauce. Gently stir.

Bake, uncovered, at 350F for 45 minutes. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before sharing.

Store leftovers in a covered container for up to two days or freeze for up to two weeks.  When reheating, add additional BBQ sauce or water to thin the beans as they tend to thicken.

Skillet Baked Beans Casserole

Heat oven to 350°F and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.

Cook the bacon (until soft but cooked througin a large saucepan. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and add the ground chuck to the pan with the bacon fat. Cook the beef until brown and drain, reserving 2 tablespoons rendered fat. Set the meat aside until ready to use.

Add the onion and bell pepper to the rendered fat. Cook 3 minutes or until the vegetables have softened. Add the beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire Sauce, cider vinegar and brown sugar; stir well. Taste and season with salt and black pepper; stir to incorporate.

Pour the bean mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the bacon on top. Cover with aluminum foil and bake 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake an additional 25-30 minutes or until thickened.

Remove from the oven and let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Bbq Baked Beans Casserole

Saucy, smoky BBQ pinto beans simmered in 1 pot in a rich sauce of spices, tomato paste, mustard, and coconut sugar. A healthier take on this classic dish!

1-Pot BBQ Baked Beans

Tbsp olive oil ((if avoiding oil, sub water))

red bell pepper, chopped

vegetable broth ((or store-bought // we prefer Imagine brand, not Trader Joe's))

Water beans

Tbsp yellow brown mustard

tomato paste ((plus more to taste))

coconut sugar ((more or less

chili

liquid

hot sauce ((optional // we like Tapatio))

Add pinto beans to a large pot and cover with cool water (at least a few inches above the beans as they will expand). Soak for at least 6 hours or overnight* uncovered at room temperature.&nbsp;Once beans are soaked, drain and set aside.

Heat your large pot over medium heat. Once hot, add oil (or water), diced onion, and bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, or until onion is soft and translucent.

Next, add drained beans and vegetable broth and cover with water about 1 inch over the top, as the beans will expand while cooking. Bring to a low boil. Then reduce heat to low or medium-low so it simmers but doesn’t boil. Cook uncovered for 1 hour or until beans are tender.

Once the beans are tender and cooked through, add remaining seasonings: Mustard, tomato paste, coconut sugar, salt, pepper, chili powder, liquid smoke, and hot sauce (optional). Stir to coat and cook on low for 10-15 more minutes to let the flavors meld.

Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more salt to taste, chili powder or hot sauce for heat, coconut sugar for sweetness, mustard for tanginess, or tomato paste for depth of flavor. You want them very well seasoned, so don't be shy!

Your beans are now ready to enjoy!&nbsp;Store leftovers well covered in the refrigerator up to 5 days. Will keep in the freezer for 1 month (oftentimes longer).

Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large oven-safe skillet or dutch oven cook the bacon over medium-high heat on the cooktop until it just starts to crisp. Add the onions and cook until they are translucent - about 5 minutes.
