I just made this recipe using low sodium soy sauce, because that's what I use, and it was very good.  I was a bit skeptical about the sauce thickening but it did.   I will make this recipe again.

The person who posted this recipe I don't believe actually made it. Why? Because when you reduce down the sauce it is much to salty using regular soy sauce. You need to use low sodium soy sauce for this to work. Otherwise, I think it would have been good but it is frustrating to go to the trouble of making a recipe only to find it is has flaws.

I just made this recipe with ribeye steak.I seasoned my meat 1st .let marinate for 4 hours. I also use low sodium soy sauce. When I seared the steak in oil I also added chili oil. In the sauce I added onions and mushrooms. Served over brown rice.
I didn't have fresh ginger or scallions.. But will next time..My husband says it's a keeper..

Ultra crispy and smothered in a soy-based sauce studded with rich brown sugar, sweet mirin wine, and brimming with heat from Sambal Oelek, these Beef Lettuce Wraps are my new favorite way to do lettuce. With easy-to-find ingredients, and minimal prep and cook time, they&#039;re also the perfect way to get dinner on the table without  much effort.  

Bulgogi Beef Lettuce Wraps

tbsp sesame oil

lb sirloin

tsp salt

pear, grated

garlic cloves, minced

dark brown sugar (light is fine too)

mirin

tsp black pepper

tbsp gochujang or sambal oelek

green onions, sliced

butter lettuce

red peppers

sesame seeds

Heat a large wok or non-stick skillet over a heat heat. Add 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Swirl to coat the pan. Add ground beef. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Working quickly, use a wooden spoon to break up the beef into small pieces. Continue to brown the beef until it starts to turn very crispy on the outside. This should take about 6-8 minutes. Be sure to keep breaking up the beef with the wooden spooon.

While the beef cooks, slice the veggies if you haven&#039;t already. Add the soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, remaining sesame oil, black pepper, and sambal oelek to a jar with a lid. (You can also use a small bowl and whisk, just make sure to whisk until all the brown sugar has dissolved.) Shake the jar until the brown sugar has dissolved and all ingedients are combined.

Once the beef is cooked through, and most of it is crispy, add the onion and pear. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until onion has completely softened. Add garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes until softened.

Sprinkle the beef with sauce and sprinkle with green onion. Continue to cook, stirring frequently until the beef is coated and the sauce has thickened, another 3-4 minutes.

Spoon into lettuce. Top with peppers and carrots. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Wrap up a healthy, light and easy dinner everyone will rave about with this Asian Lettuce Wraps Recipe with Ginger Lime Dipping Sauce!  Beef fills tender butter lettuce leaves here but chicken, turkey or pork will also work.

Asian Lettuce Wraps Recipe with Ginger Lime Dipping Sauce

soy sauce (preferably low-sodium)

limes (juiced (approximately 1/4 cup juice))

garlic (minced)

honey ((as needed))

chili garlic sauce (or

sesame oil

onion

red bell pepper

chuck

beef broth (or vegetable broth)

ketchup

Salt and black pepper (only if needed)

Boston lettuce (rinsed and patted dry)

Shredded carrots

scallions (thinly sliced diagonally)

brown rice

Lime wedges

Combine all the ingredients for the dipping sauce.  Refrigerate if made in advance; set aside if using right away.

Ginger Lime Dipping Sauce

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.  Add the onion, reduce heat to medium and cook 3-4 minutes.  Add the red bell pepper and cook another 2-3 minutes.

Add ground beef.  Cook 5-6 minutes, breaking the beef up with a large spoon as the beef browns.  When beef is no longer pink, drain off any excess grease.

Return the skillet to the heat and add the garlic, ginger, broth, ketchup, soy sauce, rice vinegar and chili garlic sauce.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until sauce is reduced and thickened.  Taste for seasoning.

Beef and Wraps

Spoon beef into lettuce cups, top with rice, carrots and scallions.  Serve a small bowl of the dipping sauce for each diner on the side.
