This recipe was given to me by a Russian cook in New York 70 years ago.

Real Russian Borscht

This is like have stuffed cabbage in a soup and it is super easy and can be made in your crockpot. It is no secret that Jews love sweet and sour and I think that is why so many of us love chinese food! Using a cheap piece of beef and ingredients you probabaly have already on hand you can fill those stomachs quite easily and they will think you are a genius!
Note: A fresser, in yiddish is someone who really enjoys their food.

Sweet and Sour Cabbage Borscht

cup(s) ketchup (trust me, it works great)

tomato paste

tablespoon(s) sugar

teaspoon(s) (or more) pepper

lemon juice

My family loves this on a cold night.  It's cheap, easy and filling.  I serve mine with Mistaken Biscuits for an added comfort.

Waldorf Astoria Stew

tablespoon(s) minute tapioca

tomato soup (10 3/4-oz)

I love a good stew and being made in a slow cooker the stew meat is always tender and wonderful. When adding the seasoning and tapioca I omitted the sugar and added some lemon pepper and garlic powder. The tomato soup makes a great flavored sauce and the vege's were fork tender but not mushy. Next time I make this might throw in a can of petite diced tomatoes. Thank you Vic for posting this one! Made and reviewed for the Culinary Quest 2016 - New York.

I made this for the hubby and he said give it 5 stars...I took a taste of it and was amazed at the flavor of the liquid...it has to be the tomato soup...who would have thought that it would give a basic stew such an interesting change in flavor...I highly suggest giving it a try...made for "For Your Consideration" tag game...
