This easy, one-pot American Goulash (aka Beefaroni) is the epitome of comfort food and a meal the entire family will love! It starts with a flavorful homemade meat sauce, then macaroni noodles cooked in the sauce, and finished with a sprinkle of cheese.

American Goulash (Beefaroni)

olive oil

onion (, finely diced)

garlic (, minced)

lb beef

salt and pepper

parsley

basil

EACH garlic powder, and paprika

tsp EACH dried oregano and, chili powder

red pepper flakes

tomato paste

tomato sauce

sugar

low-sodium beef broth (, divided)

elbow noodles ((8 oz), uncooked)

cheddar cheese

Heat a large skillet with sides, over medium heat. Add oil. Once hot, add onion and saute for several minutes into tender and translucent. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Push onion to the side and add ground beef and season well with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, crumbling it into very small pieces as it cooks. Add all dry spices and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Stir in the tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, Worcestershire and 1 ½ cups beef broth. Simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. Taste and add additional seasonings, if needed.

Add additional 3/4 cup broth and uncooked pasta. Cook until pasta is tender. Stir in freshly grated cheese and allow to melt. Serve immediately.

Make a homemade Beefaroni recipe at home with just 6 ingredients! It&#039;s easier than you think even using a homemade meat sauce. It&#039;s ready in 30 minutes.

Homemade Beefaroni Recipe

lb elbow macaroni

tbsp extra virgin olive oil

onion

garlic,

29 oz canned tomato sauce (such as Hunt's)

First, cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions.

Meanwhile, add chopped onions, minced garlic and olive oil to a large frying pan. Cook on med/high heat for 5 minutes. Stir midway through.

Next, add the ground beef and break up into small pieces. Brown for 5-10 minutes.

Then, add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and canned tomato sauce. Cook on high for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Add meat sauce to drained elbow macaroni and stir together.

In a small ramekin, combine the cumin, paprika, granulated onion and garlic, and the white pepper; set  this seasoning mixture aside for a moment.

Place a large cast-iron skillet or other large, oven-safe pan over medium-high heat, and drizzle in about 2 tablespoons of the olive or avocado oil; once hot, add in the diced onions and saute those for about 5 minutes, until they become golden-brown and sweet smelling.

Next, crumble the ground beef into the sauteed onions, and break it up into fine crumbles with a wooden spoon or spatula; sprinkle in a couple of good pinches of salt and black pepper, along with the seasoning mixture, and cook the beef until cooked through and beginning to brown, about 5 minutes.

Add in the garlic and stir until aromatic, then add the tomato paste, stirring to incorporate.

Pour in the tomato sauce along with the diced tomatoes, add a couple more pinches of salt to make sure the flavor/seasoning level is to your liking, and allow the sauce to gently simmer on low, uncovered, for about 15-20 minutes.

While the sauce simmers, cook your elbow macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and keep warm.

Once the sauce is finished, stir in the parsley, then add in the cooked elbow macaroni, and gently stir to combine everything very well.

Top the beefaroni with the two grated cheeses, and place the skillet under the broiler for about 5 minutes, just until the cheeses are melted; top with a garnish of parsley, if desired, and serve hot!

Five main ingredients and less than thirty minutes to recreate a childhood classic of slightly-spiced pasta, beef, and sauce.

Easy Homemade Beefaroni

elbow macaroni ((regular or gluten free))

onion, (chopped)

29 oz tomato sauce

Tablespoons chili powder

Cook pasta according to package directions.

While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper.

Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.

Drain the cooked pasta and return to the pot. Add the beef, tomato sauce, and chili powder and stir together.

Return the pot to the stove over medium heat until heated through. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Turn the Instant Pot on "SAUTE." Add in...

Turn the Instant Pot on "SAUTE." Add in the olive oil, chopped onion, and garlic. Cook for about 3 minutes, until onions are translucent. Add in ground beef and cook until crumbled and brown, with no pink remaining. Drain out any excess grease.

Add in the beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon until no bits remain (this is called deglazing). Then add in the water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and pasta noodles. Stir until combined.

¼ lb Ground beef

lb macaroni

Garlic powder

Tomato sauce

Tbsp Red pepper flakes ((reduce

Tbsp Chicken Bouillon ((you can use beef))

dry Rosemary

tsp Parsley

Shredded cheese cheddar or Monterey Jack.

Sauté onions in 1 Tbsp of oil then add the ground beef and spice blend. Cook till no longer pink.

Add the Tomato sauce stir and reduce heat to low and let beef sauce simmer for about 5 mins then turn off heat.

Make the ground beef sauce

Bring water to a boil and cook according to pasta instructions see my post on how to cook the perfect pasta for guidance.

When pasta is cooked, drain with a colander then transfer back to pot.

Pour the ground beef sauce into the pasta pot and mix to combine. You can serve it as is at this point or you can go further and top with some cheese and broil for 3-5 minutes until cheese melts.

Sprinkle some chopped  parsley on the top and serve.
