The Best Chocolate Cake Recipe {Ever}

all-purpose flour

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Preheat oven to 350º F. Prepare two 9-inch cake pans by spraying with baking spray or buttering and lightly flouring.

Add flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt and espresso powder to a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk through to combine or, using your paddle attachment, stir through flour mixture until combined well.

Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to flour mixture and mix together on medium speed until well combined. Reduce speed and carefully add boiling water to the cake batter until well combined.

Distribute cake batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick or cake tester inserted in the center of the chocolate cake comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes, remove from the pan and cool completely.

Frost cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.

Line the base of a 16 cm springform cake tin with baking paper.

Place almonds, ground rolled oats and drained dates in a food processor and process until the mixture sticks together. Adjust sweetness by adding 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup if needed.

Once it’s all combined, press the crust mixture into the cake tin, making sure you press it out evenly. Place it in the fridge.

Crust

Melt chocolate over low heat in a medium pot.

Drain cashews well and place them in a blender. Add rice milk, coconut oil, lemon juice, and date syrup and blend on high speed until smooth and creamy.

Add in melted chocolate and blend again briefly until all is well combined. Adjust sweetness. 

Pour the filling over the crust.

Place the cake in the freezer to set for at least a couple of hours.

Serving suggestion: Just before serving, drizzle the cake with melted chocolate.

(260 grams) all purpose flour

(414 grams) sugar

(85 grams) natural unsweetened cocoa powder

tsp baking soda

(240 milliliters) buttermilk

(240 milliliters) vegetable oil

vanilla

(240 milliliters) hot water

(280 grams) butter, room temperature

(237 grams) shortening

(1035 grams) powdered sugar

tsp vanilla extract

(114 grams) natural unsweetened cocoa powder

4-5 tbsp (60-75 milliliters) water/milk

oz (1 cup | 169 grams) semi sweet chocolate chips

heavy whipping cream

Sprinkles

Prepare three 8 inch cake pans with parchment paper circles in the bottom, and grease the sides.

Add all dry ingredients to a large bowl and whisk together.

Add eggs, buttermilk and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients and mix well.

Add vanilla to boiling water and add to mixture. Mix well.

Divide batter evenly between cakes pans and bake for 30-33 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs.

Remove cakes from oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes, then remove to cooling racks to cool completely.

Make the Cakes

Make frosting while cakes cool. Beat together butter and shortening until smooth.

Slowly add 4 cups (460g) of powdered sugar and mix until smooth.

Add vanilla and half of the water or milk and mix until smooth.

Add another 5 cups (575g) of powdered sugar and mix until smooth.

Add remaining water or milk until the frosting is the right consistency.

Make the Frosting

Once cakes are cool, remove cake domes from top with a large serrated knife. See my tips on how to level a cake and how to stack a cake.

Place first layer of cake on cake plate. Spread about 1 cup of frosting on top in an even layer.

Add second layer of cake and add another cup of frosting on top in an even layer.

Add final layer of cake on top and frost the outside of the cake. Feel free to use my tutorial for frosting a smooth cake.

Assemble the Cake

To make the chocolate ganache, add the chocolate chips to a medium sized bowl (see my tips on making chocolate ganache).

Heat the heavy whipping cream just until it begins to boil, then pour it over the chocolate chips. Allow it to sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth.

Make the Chocolate Ganache

Drizzle the chocolate ganache around the edge of the cake, then pour the remainder of the ganache on top of the cake and spread evenly. I like to use a squeeze bottle for drizzling around the edges. See my tips on making a chocolate drip cake.

Allow the ganache to firm up a bit, then pipe the remainder of the frosting around the top edge of the cake and pipe a border around the bottom. I used Ateco tip 844.

Add a few sprinkles to the cake, if desired, then serve. Cake is best when well covered for 3-4 days.

I started making chocolate cakes from a box at age 10..56 years ago..progressed to scratch cakes and this is by far the best chocolate cake ever!  My store only carries 2% Buttermilk so I used 3/4 Buttermilk and 1/4 heavy cream for the full far experience.  Awesome!

Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and thoroughly grease and flour a 10x15 jelly roll pan (or spray with baking spray).

Combine butter, water, and cocoa powder in a medium-sized saucepan over low heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter is melted. Increase heat to medium and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool for 15-20 minutes.

While butter/cocoa mixture is cooling, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and instant coffee in a large bowl.

In another bowl, whisk together sour cream and eggs and vanilla. Stir this into your dry ingredients until combined.

Once the chocolate mixture has cooled for at least 15 minutes, stir into your flour/sour cream mixture until mixture is smooth and completely combined.

Spread batter into prepared jelly roll pan and bake on 350F (175C) for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

all-purpose flour ((205 grams))

brown sugar (packed (200 grams))

sugar ((200 grams))

natural cocoa powder

unsalted butter (melted (113 grams))

canola oil ((may substitute vegetable oil) (118 milliliters))

eggs egg

buttermilk¹

semisweet chocolate chips ((170 grams))

unsalted butter (softened to room temperature (226 grams))

sugar ((320 grams))

Tablespoons heavy cream ((30 milliliters))

mini chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and prepare two deep 8&quot; round cake pans⁴ by lining the bottoms with parchment paper and lightly greasing and flouring the sides.  Set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave chocolate chips at 15 second intervals, stirring between intervals, until chips are completely melted. Set aside and allow to cool slightly (about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally).

Cream room temperature butter with an electric mixer. &nbsp;Stir in slightly cooled chocolate and beat well.

Gradually add sugar, scraping down the sides and bottom of bowl occasionally.

Sprinkle in salt and vanilla extract, stir well.

Gradually add heavy cream, increase speed to high and beat for 1 minute.

Spread a thick layer of frosting over the top of one cake round and sprinkle with mini chocolate chips. &nbsp;Top with second cake round and evenly frost cake. &nbsp;Slice and serve.

Glaze:
