This blackened cod recipe combines a bold smoky blackened seasoning with firm but flakey and mild cod fish, pan seared to perfection! Perfect for blackened cod tacos or served up with some roasted vegetables.

Blackened Cod

oz filet cod

tbsp oil

tbsp smoked or sweet paprika

onion powder

garlic powder

tsp black pepper

tsp kosher salt

brown sugar

cayenne

basil

thyme

oregano

Thoroughly mix smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, kosher salt, brown sugar, cayenne, dried basil, dried oregano, dried thyme to create blackened seasoning. Store any unused portion in an airtight jar.

Blackened Seasoning

Dry each cod filet with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.

Rub each cod filet with about 1 tsp oil.

Evenly sprinkle blackened seasoning on all side of cod filet. You can use your hands to be sure blackened seasoning is coating all sides of the cod.

Pour remaining oil into sauté pan and heat to medium high.

Once oil is hot, plate your cod filets into the saute pan.

Cook each side for approximately 3-4 minutes or until cod fish is thoroughly cooked through.

Blackened Cod Recipe

(6 oz) Wild-Caught Cod Filets

1.5 Tbsp Avocado Oil

tsp Chili Powder

tsp EACH of Onion Powder u0026 Cumin

Preheat oven to 400 F.

Add all seasonings to a bowl and mix.  Then, add 1/2 Tbsp of avocado oil to form a paste-like texture.

Rub the seasoning onto both sides of each cod filet.

In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 Tbsp of avocado oil.  Once the oil is hot, sear the cod on both sides for 2 minutes.

Then, bake the cod for 10-15 minutes or until fully cooked through.
